Jumping using the y/x buttons as opposed to using the joy stick easier and overall more effective when playing a character like C. Falcon?

Hmm. Any suggestions on how to break my bad habit of using the joystick to jump? Any suggestion would be appreciated.

try to only ise the stick to recover and horizontal movement only and if you want to jump to your enemy just mash the stick forward and jump with x/y what you feel better,you will notice how you speed up your game

Yeah I can see my short hops cover more distance when I execute the jump with the y/x buttons instead of the joy stick(Actually trying it out now). Thanks a ton.
