I think they will, a console can handle DLC and it's easier to port the same design over. I hope they will too seeing a cool stage and realizing it's only on 3DS is upsetting.

Well, if they planned for the 3DS stages to be Wii U DLC, cross platform play wouldn't be a problem, would it?

Long story short: I don't think so. It'd be amazing to see the KI:U stage on the Wii U, but I doubt it'll be a thing.

That's very doubtful in my opinion. Especially since they want to sell both versions so they should have a good number of things that sets them apart, besides portability for the handheld version.

There is so much wrong with what you just said. Cross platform play is really hard to pull off when two devices are in the same area powerwise but between a 3DS and WiiU? And by Nintendo? Nah.
Stage-wise, wouldn't that defeat the whole point of having two distinct versions?
You'd be able to take it on the go. That's a pretty big distinction.

Yeah, the platform is the biggest distinction there is. But Sakurai wants to make both versions their own unique experiences, part of that celebrating the console and handheld heritage respectively. If you want to play on the 3DS so bad, go buy the game for it.

Nah I just want to play the WiiU one with some of the neat stages from the 3DS game.

As much as I'd love to see some stages like Rainbow Road and the Reset Bomb stage in glorious HD, it kinda makes the 3DS version a bit useless, I know there's the whole "It's portable" nonsense, but if the Wii U has both it's stages and the 3DS stages, then that's gonna ruin the unique experiences, and people will just buy the Wii U version over the 3DS version because, well, it has all of it's content PLUS a lot more.

On the other hand, I'd love some 64/Melee/Brawl stages as dlc

I'd say probably not. The Wii U version will primarily focus on contents from major consoles, but I guess it would be a nice treat if it was considered.

Eh... I seriously doubt it. That pretty much destroys the uniqueness of both versions, not to mention its one of the reason Sakurai wont feature Cross-Platform fighting.

I'm going to say no on this one. I think it's a pretty cool idea, but I think they're going to want to keep 3ds stages with the 3ds version only.

This is why I'm getting the game for both platforms.

I think the different stages give just enough incentive for that.

As much as I like the idea, I'm going to have to go with nay as well. I am sure that there WILL be DLC with other stuff in it though, no doubt, but I don't think there will be content that will invade on the other version. Perhaps after the game is released, there will be costumes and the like, who knows. If they treat SSB4 anything like they are Pikmin 3, then we can expect to get some decent DLC I'd say.

I'm hoping so, my friend has an idea that they'll allow some sort of connection to the 3DS, and if you own the 3DS version you can download all the stages (and possibly even 1 exclusive character) to play on Wii U in glorious HD, and possibly vise versa. I mean, Wii U disks have a limit of 25GB, and 3DS have 8gb (and possibly higher - for the longest time 128mb and 256mb were thought of as the largest DS cartridge sizes, then some games had custom 512mb carts made like Pokemon Black and White 2. Who knows, Smash 4 could come on a 16gb cartridge if needed, but I doubt it as even Pokemon X/Y was only 1.4gb)

That would defeat the purpose of exclusive stages. It is a marketing ploy, they want you to buy both versions. So I highly doubt they would do something so antithetical to their agenda.

But that would get you to buy the 3DS/U version, possibly even if you don't own the console if delivered as something like a code - that'd also stop people from using friend's copies or anything.

This would be a GREAT idea. but since it is a great idea. I dont see it happening. doing this will also take away sales for the 3ds version.

I hope we get atleast dlc stages, whether it be original or a past stage. I ain't supporting if they're just gonna do some alt costume BS.
...oh who the hell am I kidding?
Lmao, I know I would buy the costumes too. I'm hoping for DLC characters and stages. I'm just skeptical because it isn't how Sakurai operates..

They already said that you can not do cross-platform matches between the Wii U & Nintendo 3DS games due to having different selections of stages. Making them DLC on the other system would only confuse people thinking they actually can do cross-platform matches when that's not the case. So no, it ain't happening.

Well, there are some stages that should be in both versions, like Rainbow Road and Bowser's Castle, but I do want a Kid Icarus: Uprising stage for the Wii U, the original games barely have some lame content to choose from (Which was already exploited with Brawl).

I know many others have said it but, wouldn't it defeat the purpose of a 3DS version?
Sure, one could say the 3DS could live, but then why suck out what made it unique. Going completely against Sakurai's original idea.
Fine, many would say "it would help with connectivity between the two", but if all we're just going to get then is a watered-down port. Then why not just ditch the 3DS version?
This idea just has more cons and pros...
