In all honesty, I feel like the 3DS can handle Smash perfectly without problems, it even is better at handling it than GC controllers (I have 4 smash controllers that don't work because of playing with the GC, not even when I was trying to Melee in competitive.)

So basically I think all of the people that got the problem of the stick, was because they were doing something like this:

not literally, but come on people...

Yeahhhhh when I got the demo my bro sent me that news thing about all the broken 3ds' and I was like "I'm not one of THOSE people...the ones that go all crazy with their smash attacks and such... I also don't like throwing my 3DS against walls."

The reason the Circle Pad is breaking for some people is because they're slamming it when dashing, using Smash Attacks, etc. until it eventually pops off. I don't even think Kid Icarus: Uprising broke as many Circle Pads as Smash Bros, lol.

I love it XD

But uh. No it isn't. I've tested my circle pad by pushing it as hard and as sudden as I would in a game. Multiple times in different directions..

For me at least the while "circle pad breaking" won't be a problem.

I agree, if your too aggressive with the circle pad expect it to break. That being said, I much prefer joysticks as they are designed to be more durable, thus I can play more aggressively. When I play the demo I really feel like I'm holding myself back.
I remember when the wii u gamepad originally was going to have circle pads, I'm so glad they changed that :p

It's so easy to do the "tap" input with this thing that you end up doing it by accident unless you're super gentle, I don't know why people are pushing their circle pads so much.

I haven't had problems with smashes and dashes, but I find it rather hard to perform tilts (particularly the up tilt) with the circle pad. Seems like any time I try I wind up jumping. Do they have the option to disable tap jump in the full version?

Why would anyone damage their own circle pad. The 3ds is pretty fragile and isn't really build for a game like smash. You just gonna have to try to take it easy on it.

Why there;s so much complains?

I have trouble to NOT break it and really, it;s way too sensitive to push cmpletely the stick at the time of a button press. If you haven;t broken a GC stick, then it;s fine, but I saw so much people did and my stick almost broke,

At least you can pause and put it back, but that;s going to be annoying on online match...

People are too harsh on the 3ds stick. It's just because it's quicker to react by hitting harder with force under the heat of the game.

I think as long as people aren't overly aggressive with the circle pad, there shouldn't be very many problems. I've been playing a lot of the demo as well as Kid Icarus lately and my circle pad is just fine.

You gotta admit this kind of game or any fighting game really aren't built for handhelds initially. I can see how some people might actually just break it on accident.

Feels quite comfortable, and that's on a regular 3DS non-bulky. Just don't mash as hard as you would on a Gamecube controller.

I can understand how it is there fault if they are being too rough, but the joypad just feels kind of sensitive to me, I don't know how it would handle from tons and tons of play on a fighting game. With that being said, maybe it can handle a lot.

Is the circle pad on the 2DS more durable?
I don't believe so, the 2DS is kind of a mess overall in my opinion. Don't know anyone who enjoyed it or was excited about it. One of my friends liked the idea of a 2DS that was actually fold-able, and he would have bought it, if it was fold-able, but nope. Instead it's just a brick.

Ive played the demo for a good 20+ hours and have had ZERO problems. Went back to playing new leaf with no differences, no rubber wear, no sticking.
For whatever reason, I have a hard time doing up tilts, I always end up doing an up smash. On the flip side, its very difficult to do down smashes and I always end up doing down tilts.
Might just be my ds, or the hardware, or my personal way i use the device.

I have no issues with the circle pad, beyond the demo having the jump tied to it. Cannot wait to turn that off.

This is like when people were breaking their tv's when the wii came out.

Careful, I said that in another thread and someone started throwing a fit. =P

All things considered though, you're right. With the Wii, people were swinging the wiimote so hard that it was slipping out of their hands and snapping the wrist strap(assuming they used the strap in the first place, I bet most didn't), because it wasn't designed for that kind of use.

Same deal here, the Circle Pad isn't designed to be hit back and forth with the same force as a gamecube controller. If you do so, chances are eventually something is going to give, and I'm pretty sure it's not going to be your thumb.

I may not be happening yet but I think more L and R buttons will break than circle pads...

And the ABXY buttons as well. The R button has a history of breaking on the DS and 3DS(and I think the GBA too) and needing to be sent in for repairs, but that's just normal wear and tear, the more you play the system, the faster it'll wear out. I've had the X button wear out on my old 3DS that I got on launch night and had to send it in for repairs

I dont get how people can destroy their stuff. My ps1 launch controller still works. My ps1 still works that i have since Kindergarden. I am 21 now. My ps2 still works after 8 years. My ps3 works after 6 years although people complain their ps3's stop reading disks or get yellow light of death.

The only sensitive thing I feel here is the game itself, as it's SUPER responsive, almost too responsive at times. You could do the gentlest inputs and it will perform them with ease, there's no need for people to jerk around their 3DS to play aggressively like with a controller, you can still play like this just fine with gentle actions.

People taking it as a controller and expecting the fragile Circle Pad to hold out on brute usage like that will definitely bust it though. It's not the best type of control stick, but it's certainly not that easy to bust if you don't use it like you would a regular controller. It just can't handle that type of rough use.

My circle pad's rubber did wear out though, but that was because of dirt that somehow got to it while in my pockets. The rubber tore off and I got rid of it, but the circle pad itself is perfectly fine still.

I just wonder I heard that SSBM inputs were made to be ok for wiggling the stick, but this game now has more sensitive inputs....

Because I'm sure I would got used to SSBM and not realise I don't need to be that brutal.

Is that true that inputs are more sensitive.

It is. I'd call them responsive over sensitive imo. The slightest motion you do will be picked up by the game easily, which I find helps the 3DS a lot since you don't need to be too rough for intricate inputs.

I've already read that some people with an old 3DS who told that their rubber got off month ago. So it's an issue which isn't completely related to Smash Bros. itself. It just happens now a little bit more often probably because people played they game like they used to dot it on other consoles before.
It happened to myself yesterday and I just thought "Well my 3DS is 3 years old.". Now I'm looking to put the rubber back on so he will stick on the slide pad. But I'm not sure if will be coninue playing the Demo because now I'm concerned that one mistake might cause real damage to my circle pad.
And yes even if people like Kalierdarke say just play "normal" and be smart enough to use the circle pad correct everything will work fine, I will be concerned because like GoddessOfLamps said: "Old habits die hard". I played like I'm used to it, my 3DS is already over three years old and probably one mistake might cause real damage.

There is, thank god. My Megaman feels naked without a reliable up-tilt.

Well in the first case you mentioned there, that's just normal wear & tear, everything eventually breaks after so much use, the more you use it, the faster it breaks. the more stress you put on it, the faster it breaks.

As for "Old habits die hard", this is true, more so when people aren't aware the controls are more responsive and the stick isn't designed to handle the old play habits you're used to. It'll actually do a lot of good to remind people before they get the game that they don't have to be so rough with the circle pad. They might still slip up and go back to their old style of play, but most people will catch themselves and try to be more careful until they get used to it.

And at this point if they still end up breaking the circle pad you can just say "I told you so".
