do you think playing on the 3ds too much will affect your wii u skills in a negative way?

the controllers are completely different, or do you think it's something you can adjust to within an hour?

I don't think it will affect me at all. Smash is really intuitive and I've never had problems picking up a new game. Switching the controllers for the previous games didn't phase me.

I don't plan to play Smash on a Wii U, so no, it will not affect me negatively in any way.

It won't be a problem. I'm already very good at moving between different smash games; moving between versions of the same smash game and just using a different controller seems easy. In fact, I plan to play a ton of smash 3DS to be as good as possible when smash Wii U comes out; I expect smash 3DS to help me play better on Wii U.

Of course, I'm more of a spacing/smart play type of guy in how I approach these games. If you as a player are less tactical and more technical, this might be harder for you, but the early metagame will probably be really rough for you regardless in that case so you might as well use smash 3DS to learn what's good early on and then ask yourself later when you are able to begin refining your tech how big of a deal the controller switch thing is to you.

Mechanics are really the only thing there is to justify "rust" when switching, and since both games are mechanically identical, no johns.

Nope. I can swap from Smash64 to PM on the fly and be adjusted within a few seconds, I expect the 3DS version will be similarly adaptable.

I feel like it will effect my gameplay. I'm a heavy c stick user which the 3ds doesn't have. I imagine I will have a different main on the 3ds than wii u so I don't ruin the way I control my main. I think it's superior to use a c stick and I don't want a habit of not using it built into my main.

I think playing a lot on the 3DS actually might make me use the Pro Controller for a little bit. I never really understood all of the hype around the Gamecube controller anyways.

Even if it did, which it won't, I expect the experience I gain playing the 3DS version to be more valuable than the detriment caused by a change in controls or whatever it is you're implying will cause harm.

I don't see why it should. You basically learn a characters ground, aerial and smash attacks from 3DS and you can apply certainly them in the Wii U installment. Considering the character's move set wasn't alter prior to Wii U.

I'm actually hoping it will improve my skills on Wii U since I'll have to learn how to play without a cstick.

Because these games have the same mechanics, I would expect to do the same things in both games. The lack of C-stick on the 3ds may be a slight detriment because it can affect proper spacing with short hop aerials. But I don't think it will be bad enough to need a different main for the two games.

I actually had no problem adjusting to a Wiimote/nunchuck control style, I think I can do it again easily. Since the 3DS and Wii U gamepad have similar layouts, I don't think switching between the two will be very difficult. My only concern is the joystick, since playing one version with a sliding one might throw me off a little when using a turning one, but again, not a big deal.

I don't think it'll effect the players all that much. Once you get the controls down on the 3ds you should be good.

I'm more worried about trying to pick up a character that I play in the previous versions. I'm already really paranoid about this and go out of my way to pick different mains each version.

as long as they dont play drastically different you should be fine, i play fox in every game(except brawl because i don't play that) and have never had any issue.

I don't think so, lack of a C-stick might affect you a bit but then again there is a 3DS with a Cstick coming out eventually.

The controls are super important for me, I am just awful with a Wii Classic Controller, then much much better with a GCN controller. I think I'll have a very hard time adapting to the 3DS XL, but when the WiiU version comes out, it'll feel like I'm home again and I'll re-adapt quickly.

There's No reason why it would. That would be like if you played Pokemon red and that messes you up When you play xy. Or if you play Mario 1 and that messes up your NSMBU game.
