Do you have to mash the cstick to sdi?

My friend says I can just hold the cstick but Ive been told by others at tourneys that mashing it is better. Which is better? Is there any difference?

Mashing moves you farther into the direction you're trying to go because (hopefully) you're getting in more inputs during hitstun than holding.

Cstick only affects ASDI. This gives you a little SDI on the frame you get out of hitlag in the direction that you are HOLDING. Mashing the cstick does NOTHING for you in terms of SDI, just point the Cstick in the direction you want to ASDI.

Mash the control stick for SDI.
