I signed up for a local Video Game Tournament Club, and I just received the ruleset for their first tournament, a brawl tournament.
Please, am I nuts here, or is this ruleset completely unacceptable for competitive play?
In the case that I'm not the crazy one, could someone please explain what's wrong with these rules?
Before these rules were sent out, I personally spoke with the guy directing the tournament on a number of occasions and he was very non-committal about the ruleset, but I never thought he'd release one like this.TIME
7PM till 10:30-11PM
TOURNAMENT RULES:
These rules have been based on the amount of registered players and the fact that according to Residence Directors, the tournament cannot exceed past 10:30-11PM.
The rules have been put into effect to make sure the 40+ players all get an equal chance.
LIVES
1. Each player will have 3 Lives per round.
TIME LIMIT
2. Each Round will have a time limit of 10 Minutes.
PLAYERS
3. Each round will consist of 4 players brawling at once. One winner per round, the losers automatically is taken out from the tournament. Make each round count, you only have one shot!
VERSUS POSITION
4. Players will be drawn from a hat to determine their bracket position and opponents.
LEVEL SELECTION & ITEMS
5. Per round, going in order from 1st to 4th, players are given the chance to pick a card from a selection of 8 cards. If you pick the star card, you pick the fighting stage. If you pick the fire flower card, you decide whether items are completely ON or OFF. Being 1st player gives you first dibs but also changes the odds by having more cards. If player 1 doesn't pick either a star or flower card, 2nd player chooses from a selection of 7 cards, and so on until the two cards are chosen.
OTHER RULES
SNARKYNESS/ATTITUDE
1. I have zero tolerance for douchebaggery. To be blunt with you all, not a single person cares how much you know about a game, how good you are, etc. This club was created so FRIENDLY gamers could find a place to go. If you're an ***, then your's is out the door.
