Do fair, nair, bair really low off ledge without killing myself?

This probably seems like a silly question. I always see pros going down super far below the edge and using a fair/bair/nair to edge guard, but when I try to do the same thing I always end up killing myself. As far as I'm aware there are at least two parts to achieving edge guards like this:

1. When using bair (and possibly fair and nair?!), if you hit the opponent with my foot then you get a little bounce upwards, from what I've hard.

2. (This is what I'm really messing up). If you jump right before or at the same time (or right after or something? I don't really know - I just picked up Sheik a couple weeks ago and am new to Melee in general) as the nair/fair/bair you go upwards instead of getting stuck going downwards until you're too far below to jump back up. However, whenever I try to do this I end up killing myself.

How to they do this and make it back to the stage?! Thanks.

For *most* of the time you do your aerial at the same time as your double jump, and then usually most aerials (except nair) finish quick so then you up+b asap and get back easily

With nair, most people rarely like to go yolo with it, but same princible you do it at the same time as your double jump (good for hitting certain illusions, especially close to the stage)

If you're just running off and nairing whilst falling down you end up way too far down (though if you're fast with your inputs you can still get back depending on factors)

---

As for inputting double jumpped stuff, personally i actually tap jump to double jump and then use the c-stick to input my aerial (heresy i know) except for dj nair where i just press x+a together (and i use the same timing as nairOOS to do it)

^ Pretty much this. If you are dropping from the ledge you can go really deep as long as you're timing you jump and aerial properly. Going down there with nair is probably asking for death though, that move is out forever. Rising fair/bair is really good though, whether you're coming from the ledge or just jumping off. Also BrTarolg, you're not alone with the tap jump -> cstick, I do it the same way.

After my low aerial / double jump immediate low aerial, I just mash up B and or double jump first and it lets me recover 99% of the time.
