First of all I want to mention this information that have been recently released in "3D Juegos", the most famous and popular videogame site of Spain: http://www.3djuegos.com/noticia/135528/0/pikmin-3/wii-u/dlc/

Translation:

Pikmin 3 focuses attention on the downloadable content
Miyamoto says that the development team is able to create new content.

When we only have a couple of days for Pikmin 3 to be released in the European market, the veteran Shigeru Miyamoto has acknowledged that this outstanding strategy title for Wii U could go for downloadable content packs in the future, although it is something that have not yet decided bluntly.

"The team feels able to add new missions and maps via the Internet", has confirmed the Japanese creative in an interview with Japanese website 1101, without specifying who will do definitely.

We must not forget, however, that some time ago that the Big N appears to have opted seriously for creating various DLC for some of their most popular games, such as additional levels of New Super Mario Bros. 2, the expansion New Super Luigi U, or extra missions in the recent Fire Emblem 3DS.

Well, as we know the DLC's on Nintendo has been something that's been discussed for a long time. But, as it seems Nintendo is concidering the idea to add DLC's on its games. As we can see, Nintendo made some add-on for games like Fire Emblem and Mario, but it was focused more in levels. Not in characters and power ups. Even, as it seems, Nintendo is thinking about adding new levels via DLC for the brand new Pikmin 3.

But, Super Smash Bros, as a fighting game that it is, the important thing its the characters. Because afterall, what we want to do is to play as our favourite character and beat the s*it out of everyone else. I think, in my opinion, that we have a chance to see DLC's on the next game, although it's something that I don't quite like.

We're on the early days, we'll see what happens.

What do you think about this?

I do not support in DLCs most of the time because I find them to be not so great. Most of the DLCs nowadays are announced alongside the game it seems. As a pre-order incentive or so. I am fine with DLCs that really do add, and expand the base game itself. My 2 cents...

I want dlc so badly. Many people are just bitter about EA style dlc, but Nintendo wouldn't do that. If they do make DLC for smash, It'll be awesome and at very reasonable prices.

The worse that could happen.

#1 We get no DLC what so ever

#2 Paid DLC and no chars in the DLC (just stickers/trophies/stages not even modes or costumes.

End of story

As long as I don't have to buy each dlc character twice to have them on both versions of the game.

What DLC For Smash Should Be:
Characters that were cut or couldn't be implemented because of time.
Stage builder parts. (IF theres a stage builder)
Stages
Music
Trophies

If it is done right and not the EA style (day 1 DLC) and it adds something to the game (new chars, stages, modes, etc.) then I would be happy with it.

I would love DLC, as it allows us to get additional features that weren't in the original game. However, as many people have said before, I don't want DLC in the increasingly popular form of paid "DLC" that simply unlocks material that is already present on the disc.

There is nothing technically wrong with the concept of DLC in Smash really, but like anything else it is entirely dependent on how it is used. If DLC is being used to give players that love a game more content to enjoy that's one thing. It just seems like too often DLC is being used to basically hold content hostage so that the publisher can make a few more bucks off the sale of a 60.00 game, rather then give a loyal customer more to experience. The scary things is most things that are shoved off as 'DLC' are things that used to be unlocked thorughout the game rather then paying for it. Which is why things like microtransacitons and Day 1 DLC bother me so much.

Add new characters or stages or music for a couple of bucks, and I'm in.

As long as they don't try the whole "Season Pass" or "Exclusive Pre Order DLC" bull**** that so many games are trying to push nowadays. But I'm sure Nintendo would never do that.

I would only get DLC if they had new, unique characters and alternate costumes for the characters on the roster already.

The only characters who should be included as DLC are characters who were intended to be in the game but not finished in time, and even then onyl if the developers consider the character important enough. I don't want them adding characters just for the sake of having more characters, but if that character was actually supposed to be in the game, then I think they'd be justified in making them downloadable. This applies to Brawl veterans who didn't make the cut either.

Also, stages, music, and alternate costumes are fair game. Things that don't make you feel like you're missing out if you don't have the DLC.

Based on the interviews with Sakurai, I highly doubt DLC would be used for additional characters. He's firmly stated that making Smash a quality experience goes beyond adding more characters each sequel he creates, and I agree with him. Superficially it might seem like a good idea, but what it effectively does is it makes each individual character matter less the larger the cast is. And from a competitive perspective, its a lot harder to balance the roster the larger the pool is. I would prefer to not have a roster much larger than what Brawl currently has for these reasons.

I do think DLC would be used for fluff content though, like extra costumes and maybe cool new item additions. I can also see it being used for balance patches. Probably not as diligently as other fighters patch their games, but maybe if they happen to find something that's really out of hand.

Like, i am okay with character "alternates" where they fit. Roy and Lucina, for example, could replace Marth. Same moves, different name, voice, model, graphics, etc. I am willing to pay $3 or something,

That would be cool. You could do something like that for Sonic where he has a Shadow costume. Gameplay wise he'd be functionally the same.

Sakurai said that he will worry about dlc after the release of the game so like after he has time to rest and see his family because in previous smash games he worked on the game for months without seeing his fam so he will do that then stat talking about dlc but i know it will be great look at Super :luigi2: U that game was a complete game it changed everything from the original it was more of a expansion but they put in work into it

I absolutely want DLC for this game.

I'm not sure why people continue to worry about bad DLC, since Nintendo has multiple games with DLC - none of which have been the abusive cash-grabs that other companies are notorious for. I understood the apprehension when they initially started doing it, but after multiple games from them which have done it right, I don't see much reason to be so concerned anymore. And I doubt Sakurai has any interest in that sort of DLC either, considering he's giving the 3DS and Wii U versions of the game the same roster at least partially because version exclusive characters would be "rough for consumers", in his own words.

Characters as DLC would be fine as long as there weren't too many. Obviously balance would be a concern with a continually expanded roster, but balance patches would help with that at least somewhat (and they'd probably be needed even without DLC characters anyway).

As probably stated before, I want Sakurai to put everything he's got into smash, make it as good as as he can like he werent going to release DLC. Then do it after if the fans really want it. Basically I dont want him to leave anything out because he plans to release it later....

I think user generated DLC would be really cool. So would added characters later on

I wouldn't mind DLC as long as they did it right. Smash should be the full game with a 40-50 character roster and I want them to put all they got into it. Then after a year see what the fans want that wasn't included in the game. So lets say that Marth, Ike, and Roy are in Smash and then a new game comes out, they could add the new lord in as DLC. I'm thinking they could do about two character for about $5.
