DK's Giant Punch

I was wondering if anyone has data on DK's punch. Specifically, what the full charging time is and whatnot. Something that happens to me fairly frequently, is that I would think the punch is charged, and DK's fist will blink, but when B is pressed he charges for a split second and it can be canceled. There also seems to be some initial startup before the charging timer beings, as charging in very short intervals seems to result in a much longer charging time than doing it in one big move.

Are you sure you're not canceling it with Z?

Even if it's fully charged you have a couple of frames after you press B to execute a full punch to cancel it.

Hm, I guess I didn't know that the punch can always be canceled even when he is fully charged.
I am still curious about the other parts of the first post though. How much time (or frames) it takes for DK to charge and if stopping midway through has any effect on the charge. If the punch is cancelled that fast, does it charge at all (when it is not fully charged)? Maybe I can try using the Mupen TAS plugin and play around with it.

If you are hit while charging, the charging part always resets? Unless you got it 100% charged just before the hit

DK will only charge while he's blinking. By constantly charging and cancelling, you're adding in those start up frames that contribute nothing to the charge, which does mean it takes longer.

As far as I know, you can cancel the punch when it's at 100% by pressing Z just after you press B. I have done this many times and ruined many of my punch combos simply because I attempt to z-cancel every move I do (even in the air). I gotta get rid of this dumb habit.
