The double jump cancelled egg lay (or draconic egg lay for some) is something that I find to be essential if one wants to seriously incorporate Egg Laying into one's Yoshi game. I'm however having a bit of a problem concerning

1. How to use the DJC Egg Lay with backward momentum while having the egg lay itself stay forward. (consistently) I've been able to do it before but always have trouble replicating the results, its more out of accident that I am able to stay facing forward while going backwards with the tech.

To better illustrate this I'll present this video. Bwett (Yoshi) uses it at 3:25
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C738p0flYu4

2. How do you use the DJC Egg Lay (overall) effectively? Or, broadening the question, how does one use Egg Laying overall in their yoshi game? I find myself using it at the wrong times and being punished for it.

Thank you to those who take the time to read this post and decide to help me out with my problem :)

There are a variety of ways that this can be incorporated but like most moves, it takes practice.

To do it properly, run forward and use your DJ immediately in the opposite direction and hold that direction long enough to actually cause momentum to shift that way. Now, as you are moving, tap the direction you want to egg lay and press b pretty fast. Make sure you let go of the direction before you press b, of course. This should give you the kind of DJC egg lay you want. It's a fairly fast process, but once you get it down, it's pretty indispensable.

Now to incorporate it into your game, I would suggest you do what I usually do when I want to put something into my gameplay. Spend an entire day with a friend or something playing friendlies and spam the hell out of the move, to the point that you get punished pretty harshly for it. After you have used it that much, then the next day, don't use it so much and eventually you will find for yourself the situations that it is called for. It is situational so I can't really say when to use it (only one I can really think of is hanging on the edge, drop-> DJ -> egg lay). If you do that, you should become natural when it can be used.

After much much much practice, I think I've been able to finally learn this specific type of DJ Cancelled Egg Lay. Thanks for the help Bwett, your direction really shaved off a lot of time in trying to pick this up AND helping me to incorporate Egg Lay overall into my yoshi game. :)

Egg lay is still my most favorite skill because it has so many ways to be used. It's both an offensive and defensive skill, and really the best time to use it is when your opponent doesn't expect it.

I might as well mention that wavebouncing egg lays for spacing is also very good if you can get it down. A common combo I use is dthrow--> jump away --> wavebounce egg lay back into the person as they're falling. Don't use it all the time though, it's just a little something to mix it up! DJC wavebouncing looks pretty badass too lol.
