Dividing up the Roster among your friends

Do you guys find that, with all these new characters and updated returning characters, you're staking claims on them within your clique?

I forget about this every time a new smash comes out. The first to impress with a character seems to have no competition in mastering them. It's discouraging to try my hand at, say, Robin because my buddy is playing a whole hell of a lot of her. Nobody else is playing Rosalina, because I'm shutting people down.

Wouldn't it make sense to try and learn your frequent opponents?
