Ditto as a character

What would happen if we allowed the player who picked their character first to pick "Ditto", which makes their character choice whatever character their opponent counterpicks?

Ex: I win the first game of a set and pick Ditto. The opponent picks DK, so I am forced to play DK (with the same custom move configuration).

Is it pointless? Does it give the first pick an advantage due to guaranteed even matchup? Will we see more disrespect?

Just a thought experiment from a casual lurker.

Lol wot.
That's I don't even.
What in the.

The problem is I want to denounce this and can't really think of something to denounce it with.
...

Well it stops the opposition from counter-picking. Since they can't pick something against your character choice...

Interesting question!

I don't think it should be allowed. The reason why is because what happens if a ditto 'main' meets another ditto 'main', how do you decide what character to play or how about someone who 'main' random? What would the Ditto 'main' do then?

In a formal blink picking scenario it doesn't work with our current rules.

Sure.. but isn't this just strictly a disadvantage? Won't the other player pick his main and probably be much more used to the character?

But why would you pick ditto? Unless you're REALLY confident you're ages better than your opponent and want to make them feel bad about their choices in life, it's pointless.

I actually thought about this last night.
If a ditto main meets a ditto main, then they both have to play Random.

Sure, it won't be a ditto match, but they'll be the same character technically.

[edit] In fact, If we ever end up editing the game code, a ditto character icon could make the process automatic.
I was thinking this would be fun in For Glory, but that's getting off the topic.

Would be epic if Boss battle, then you can copy them and then flaw them with their own powers.

I'm assuming that the loser of the previous match picks after the winner picks in this example:

Let's say the metagame progresses in such a way that Brawler, Gunner and Swordfighter are SS tier. And for the sake of example, Brawler > Gunner > Swordfighter > Brawler (in rock-paper-scissors fashion). The matchups happen to all be skewed to something like 75:25. If P1 beats P2 in game 1, then P1 is stuck in a situation where she will be hard-countered no matter what. If P1 picks Ditto, however, then P2's advantage of counterpicking character-wise is diminished.
(Hopefully the meta doesn't end up boiling down to something like that, though.)

For the sake of discussion, I'm more interested in what would happen if this was implemented, not whether or not it should be implemented in tourneys.

This is a very interesting solution to a problem that will never exist.

I don't understand why anyone would pick someone else's characters. It seems like such a troll choice since the looser of 1st match is then force to play his clone (pretty sure most people don't like ditto matches).
