Display Lag and Dolphin Netplay

Hey guys. Right now I practice Melee and Project M on my Wii, but the only tv I have is lcd. My tv doesn't have as much display lag as some others that I've seen, but it's definitely noticable. I did a very non-scientific test and I think my display lag is around 100 - 150 ms. Anyway, when I go to the local weekly in my area, it takes me a while to get used to the crt's they use (but once I do, I play better).

So what does this have to do with Dolphin Netplay? Well, I'm trying to decide whether I should get a CRT or the BenQ monitor/Sewell Wii to HDMI converter to get a basically lagless display setup. The CRT has the advantage of being a lot cheaper, but the BenQ setup can double as a PC gaming monitor, thus I could use it with Dolphin Netplay.

So is Dolphin Netplay good for serious Melee/Project M practice, or is there too much lag for it to be worth it? I live on the East Coast, so I should be able to find matches with pretty low ping.

Thanks in advance.

Honestly I think you could do both. Get a CRT tv, put 20XX Hack Pack on a USB, and load it with your Wii. Great practice setup. You can, among other things, refine your technicals and reaction to DI/techs very well with it.
Netplay can be a good way to learn match-ups and how to react under pressure if you have a good enough computer, decent internet, and a Gamecube to USB adapter. There's some lag that comes from the adapter, which stays constant, and the connection you have over Netplay, which will vary sometimes even throughout the match. I made my own raphnet gc2usb and when playing offline it only feels slightly behind. Definitely better than your standard hd-tv hookup, but slightly worse than with a CRT. A lot of people use the Mayflash adapter and are fine with it, but I heard it's a little laggier than the raphnet one. You won't really need a gaming monitor for this either. A common 2ms response 60 Hz refresh rate monitor will do you just fine.

I have a 1ms response 144hz monitor for my PC and still notice a lot of lag on netplay. There will always be some lag when compared to playing locally on a cube.
