Disc Could Not Be Read

I bought my used copy of Melee from my aunt's friend for $15

he told be the disc IS a little "touchy" at times but will work.

Now, the only problem is that when I try to play Classic Mode, Adventure Mode, or try to play on Yoshi's Story Stage, the disc cannot be read.

I've tried many of my old GCube disc cleaning techniques, but a lot of them have failed.

On the good hand, though, I can still play Multiplayer Mode using my main (Sheik) on Pokemon Stadium, but I'm afraid I won't be able to play/practice on other stages because my disc won't read.

Are there any other possible home-made remedies that I could use to clean my Melee disc?

Thanks for all the help in advance

I use isopropyl alcohol to clean discs, but because it is just certain things in the game not working I'll bet the disc has scratches where the data for those stages are on. Probably should try and trade back and just spend the extra dough to get a good working copy.
