At 3:05 when Pikachu uses thunder to edge guard against Fox, Fox seems to decrease his knockback by air dodging and when he air dodges, he moves to the right opposed to the left.

I didn't see anything that looked remotely like a directional air dodge. I'm not sure what you're thinking of.

After the playable demo, I think that we can say, conclusively, that directional air dodging is gone.

That was not an air dodge, it was just a small knockback feature of pikachu's thunder.
