Different L-Cancel Timing and Fastfalling?

Whenever I SHFFL a move, for example, Falcon's dair, i find L-cancelling/fastfalling easiest when i actually connect on an opponent or completely miss.. However, when I encounter that attack with an opponent's shield, I sometimes have trouble doing either.. is the timing just slightly delayed and something I'd have to work on?

And I might be nitpicky, but when SHFFLing an attack, is the timing of that attack critical that it affects if you'll be shield-grabbed or not? In better words, is attacking RIGHT before you land best as to prevent from being grabbed? or it doesn't really make any difference if, say, falcon's dair finishes at the peak, the middle , or the land of the short hop as long as you L-cancel?

theirs lag when shffling against shields, its especially noticable when shffling against iceclimbers. A good way to practice shffl on shields is using invincibility stars on an opponent because it gives the same lag when you shffl on them as shields. Im not sure about your other question, i don't think it matters when you do it though. As long as you space it well ( such as landing behind the opponent) and/or follow up your shffl ( jab or shine after for example) you should be fine.
