Did you notice the way the full roster is organised?

It doesn't really mater, but it's kind of fun:

The first two columns are mario related (including the DK team in the second column)
The third column is Zelda related.
The fourth column contain Samus and pit whose the games are often considered as being the same genre (OK that's a little more far fetched), and below are the Ice climbers and R.O.B., no real relation, probably put there to fill the gaps.
The fifth column is kirby related (with Olimar put there to fill the gap).
The sixth column is Fox related (with captain Falcon, maybe because he is in the top tier with fox?).
The seventh column is pokemon related.
The height column who is Fire Emblem related and then Mother related.
And the final column who is guest related (with Mr. Game&Watch to fill the gap).

Kind of nice isn't? Your thought?

I think you could say that Captain Falcon is in the StarFox section because him and Fox were the only characters in SSB64 to have ALL of their moves completely made up in that game.
