Smash has seem minor stage destruction through stage hazards and certain stages like Luigi's Mansion, but for the most part these stages are immutable. I think that the formula of Smash allows for the possibility of completely or almost completely destructible stages. Fights consist of characters knocking each other around into walls and floors. Many characters have magical spells or explosives that could cause serious environmental destruction. Mutable environments could change the pace of battle.
To those this idea appeals to, what are your thoughts? How destructible should stages be? What would they look like prior and post destruction? Personally I would be fond of a stage with solid surfaces that can be destroyed over the course of a whole match, but there should be a solid indestructible platform so the stage starts out with many walls and ceilings but ends up like Final Destination when it's over.
