Delaying your Shine

Hey guys, I have a question about Fox's shine:

I have seen several players (eg. Mango) stay in their shine more than normal, and then JC it like normal. For some reason, I am unable to do this. I can easily JC my shine with fox (or falco for that matter) if I keep the shine sustained for like 1.5 seconds, but no more.

Any thoughts on this. And does falco's shine work the same way.

It might be because you're moving from holding B to press a jump button (X/Y/Up on joystick) too slowly.

Remember, when you let go of B, if you take too long to Jump Cancel it, then you'll just drop the shine normally (and the entailing lag ensues).

So try to do it faster. Or, if you want, hold the B button and jump cancel with control stick up. This might make it easier on your hands.

Falco's shine should work the same way. He jumps out of his shine slower though, as he takes 6 frames to get off the ground as opposed to 4 frames with Fox. Idk what the difference is in the air.

Yes it works the same way and it is 1 million times easier (if you want to hold a shine for whatever reason) to JC it with up instead of X/Y. Not sure how that'd help anyone but yeah lol

I think you guys misunderstood his question. He doesn't seem to be having trouble JC out of a shine. He asking how people manage staying in their shines for longer than a second a half.

Kully, my guess is that they're doing multiple shines and JC out of the last one, which can be hard to differentiate between one long shine.

No, they're just doing one shine.

Just hold down + B and then anytime you want to jump out, hit a jump button or up on the control stick.
If you let go of down + B before the jump, shine will probably end by itself and then you can't JC it anymore.

@mooki It should not be hard at all to differentiate between multishines and just holding reflector lol

I think the OP is pretty clear about what he's having trouble with. The difference between multishines and holding a shine is pretty obvious. I think Kully's watching pro players use shine stall tactics, and he's wondering why he can't replicate it in practice.

Honestly, it's not that useful of a technique, but it's nice to know how to do. Very handy in certain situations, much like shortening your illusion.

Yea, I guess that's true. I never knew that holding down + b until you actually want to JC let's you stall the JC a bit.
