Define Upper Level Tech Skill with Marth for me

In recent posts I've been reading I have noticed people saying that so and so has great tech skill and this kind of confuses me. I know what tech skill is, but the vids in which people are told they have great tech skill show nothing that is crazy impressive. I never thought of Marth as too difficult of a character tech skill wise, it was my belief that Marth is more dependent on spacing and mindgames. Double SH Fairing, ledgehop Dairing, wavelanding properly, I never saw these things as difficult so it's baffling when some one comments on another's ability to do them. The only technique Marth has that took a little bit of time for me to get down, and I think this really should be applied a little more by others, was the (I'm sorry I really am not sure what to call it) full hopped Fair where you hit the opponent with the bottom of the Fair and continue to rise above them out of their shieldgrab range, and even that wasn't too hard.
So, my question is what passes as upper level tech skill for Marth? Is it truly just those small things or are these comments I'm seeing just from lower level Marths who marvel at the tech skill of others?

Better to have asked Cactuar or emblem lord in pm.

Knowing the perfect %s for certain combos. Never missing an l-cancel or waveland. Spacing your attacks perfectly to prevent being counterattacked.

Marth's tech skill isn't really very definable.

I actually thought l-canceling and wavelanding to be pretty basic. I guess if someone never misses them but few of the critique vids have people who are on point like that and yet they still get the "great tech skill" comment. Also, I thought spacing to be its own catagory but I guess I was wrong there.

Knowing all the right ways to di would count as tech skill to me as well..its just a wide area. L-canceling and wavelanding etc are extremely basic, I never said it wasn't but for someone to have great tech skill, they would have to do those perfectly along with the rest of the things I said.

Best way to answer this is to describe mew2king

Exactly, if you don't know what good tech skill with marth is, watch m2k. Tech skill with marth isn't exactly like tech skill with other characters, it's more like knowing when to apply certain things. It's also just like being able to 0 to death combo a falco or knowing how to edgegaurd a falco every time, aka something like fthrow dtilt jab the forward b counter the upb then jump out and fair. It's knowing what to do in every situation at the spur of the moment and then being able to apply it.

I consider tech skill to encompass two areas - the things that involve the timing of buttons (waveshining with Fox, deadly chainthrows with IC's, etc) and spacing. Marth doesn't have too many button things to work on; short-hop double FAir, short-hop FAir -> UAir, chainthrowing Fox/Falco, edgehopping, and wavelanding are probably the hardest. However, in my opinion, a technical Marth is one who can easily do all of the above AND has completely mastered spacing.

Spacing absolutely defines the different combos that Marth can do; if you're going for the Ken Combo on a Falco and miss the tip, you won't be able to follow up with the DAir. Likewise, if you're trying to finish a 0%-death chainthrow with a tipper, there will be 3 possible things that can happen: 1) you get it and you get to laugh in their face as they fly off the stage, 2) you miss it by a little and they can recover, or 3) you whiff and then you get punished with a combo or a kill, depending on your damage. If you could space so well that you can pull off a sweetspotted FAir or non-sweetspotted FAir whenever you wanted to, that would be seriously difficult to deal with; you'd be able to Ken Combo almost everybody.

marth isnt a very technical character if u consider the many other characters that are in this game....

some obvious examples would probably b like fox, falco, samus etc

if u know basic advanced stuff that u r supposed to know if u wanna play very competitively like L-cancel, shuffling, wavedash, waveland, etc

but yea for u to play marth u dont have to b extremely technical it just happens that marth is still one of the top characters in the game

to me "tech skill" is a person's ability to perform an advanced tech a certain percent of the time.....

for many players and marth... well they master everything... he isnt difficult to play at all actually his short hop is easier than most in the game......and every l-cancel in the game can usually b performed by pressing the L or R or watever when u press down when u attempt a shuffl attack..... all thats really left is to practice his ledge tricks and like short hop double aerials and like ken combos if u want

if anyone is curious i believe there are tons of people who r very technical in this game but dont get very well in the game... y? well because tech skill is like 1/4 of the actual game... then like strategies and mindgames and character advantages and stage advantages.......

thats why people like Forward or Ken or M2K or PC are jus better than most or all players in the smash world because they have great tech skill( they perform watever move they want whenever they feel nessecary) and they have the best idea of the game in terms of character strengths ,weaknesses stage advantages etc

well yea thats my random rambling :D
