Mario's cape. I know its not an all too common matchup but one of the people I play with most mains Mario and the majority of my deaths are due to me getting caped near or off the ledge. Is there anything I can do about it? "Don't get hit" has actually helped me quite a bit but alas, getting hit does happen.

I've made use of reverse up-Bs making his cape beneficial but it's not always an option. (Also he has mind gamed me into suicide with that once or twice =X )

Looked around a little and couldn't find this topic so don't burn me too badly if its been posted.

if you reverse up b so you still sweetspot the edge, youll grab whether he hits you with the cape or not; falcon grabs backwards while up b'ing

just up b really high, try to go over him. when he starts jumping up in the air to get you, you can start messing with his spacing and trying to pull back for the edge, but yeah avoid trying to go too low against mario cause its just a free kill for him if hes smart

I suck hard at sweetspotting, I'll have to practice that I suppose (Just FD in training and trying to get the right height, yeah?)

Yeah when I'm recovering high I can get on/back, its trying to recover low that gets me.

Do you mean sweetspotting via reverse upB? Falcon can't sweetspot the ledge when upBing normally, as far as I know.

i dont know why people say some characters cant sweetspot

if you go as low as you possibly can while still grabbing the edge, thats sweetspotting. the issue is that moves hit below the edge, and falcons up b doesnt hit people back

I guess everyone just has so much trouble sweetspotting with Falcon that I thought it was impossible when facing forward. I almost always see pros opt for a ledgetech or reverse upB.

If Marth sweetspots the edge perfectly, Mario's cape can still hit him?

I don't know about Marth, since the marth killer is used by shielding tilting outwards, so when the tip of the sword hits the shield you fall back and edgehog him. I don't know if Mario's cape has a low enough hitbox or whatever to cape marth

I guess that makes sense.

Anyway, to the OP, practice reverse upB for playing against Mario/Doc and ledge-teching for playing everyone else.

Typically if you are in a position when your only choice is sweetspotting/ledgeteching, then you are probably at a point in your stock when almost any character could easily kill you, even without the cape. Your best bet if you are getting caped at early percentages is exactly what bigD was saying about up b'ing above him so that you can play around with spacing. If it is a platform stage, try landing on the platform sometimes for mindgames.

Basically, do mindgames or sweetspot the ledge.
