Dealing with Off Days

So today was my first tournament. I didn't expect to do well, but definitely did not expect to do as badly as I did either. I chalked a lot of my mistakes up to first time nerves and whatnot... but when I got home suddenly I'm having a hard time beating CPUs as well. Now I know I'm not exactly a good player but I can at least win matches against the CPU. I eventually got frustrated and ragequit.

So the question is, how do you guys deal with or bounce back from your off days?

Walk away for a bit. You played smash all day, you were probably smashed out.

Also, you just got done playing a tournament against real people, who will always play differently than CPUs. CPUs are not good to practice against - you will pick up poor habits as CPUs make mistakes an average player will rarely make, and sometimes do things that are not humanly possible.

I take a break and just cool off. I know if I get to hot headed I start to do worse! If I don't have time for that then I just tell myself to get better and move on. But for the most part I just stop for a couple of days.

First off, props for going out there and trying your hand at a tournament. Can't be competitive if you don't compete.

As others said, I usually take a break from the game. If I want to feel as if I'm still working on something Smash-related, I'll study matches online or do something somewhat mindless, like practice tech skill in training mode.

Some days, I just can't play any of my characters no matter what I try, doing mistaken inputs, flubbing kill moves, and just in general having bad reaction time and ability... at least until the evening. Something about having eaten dinner and it being later in the day just gets me in a better mindset, almost always. I don't know what it is, maybe nutrients, or perhaps just biorhythm or something.
It's basically the same thing as how I feel tired all day and then feel really awake and interested in internet and games far too late into the night...
