Dark Tournament rules?

If any of you have seen Yu Yu Hakusho, you should already have an idea of what I'm talking about. I just got the idea today that maybe a tournament could be run the way the Dark Tournament was run there. Here's basically how it would go down. It would be made up of 5-player teams. There'd have to be a universal time limit for each game and round, but beyond that, the rules would be up to the team captains to decide at each round. They'd get 5 minutes to decide what they want the rules to be. If consensus cannot be reached within 5 minutes, the a predetermined set of rules would be imposed. In the spirit of the tournament, that would probably be a series of 1-on-1 stock matches, best of 5, no player can compete twice per round. This could also be adapted for single players instead of teams where players cannot choose the same character twice per round.

I'm not trying to undermine what other tournament organizers do. I have never been to a tournament so you'll want to sprinkle some salt on my suggestion. I just thought this could make for some interesting variety with how Smash Bros. is done. Some could find they prefer to go with time matches, even coin or (Melee) bonus if they're so inclined. Most would probably go with classic standards, so nothing would be unfairly imposed. Would anyone attend something like that? It'd probably appeal more to people who want more variety, i.e. casual tournaments.
