Hi, as you guys can see from the title of this post, i am an obvious falco user. About two weeks ago i seemed to have gotten the grasp of shffling a dair into a shine, wavedashing out of it and so on (against lvl. foxes at least, i was able to do it 3 times in a row majority of the time), yet now for some reason i can't seem to do it anymore. It is probably just me messing up and hurting myself, yet i just can't seem to get it anymore. I usually fumble with the controls and wavedash before the shine or just stand there and look stupid.

So..... i am here to ask fellow falco users how they came to learn this combo, what they did to learn it, and any suggestions about how to press buttons, which fingers to use, timing, or thought process. Really, i am just here to ask how you guys do it.
Thank you for your time

honestly the first step would be to perfect all the steps of it (I believe this technique is called pillaring?) anyway, take a level 1 computer, or another controller (doesn't really matter) and just practice 1 thing

short hop, fast fall

put on head phones, but sit there for a good 15 minutes and make it so you get so used to the movement. next is to practice dashing and short hopping fast falling.

do that for a good 15 minutes

Now you've just perfected one of the most crucial things about falco. Now practice shffling with those and shl with those, it should be a piece of cake to catch on. once you got shffling the dair down perfect, start to practice the shine right after. (which i found the trickiest part)

Once you can do it vs a lvl 1 comp or someone who stands still, then when you play with real people (which is obviously much faster) practice approaches with it, and proper uses of it against an actual opponent. the differences will be tough at first, but soon you'll get it.

Common problem. Simple solution. Practice. Just be sure you're practicing correctly.

When I was first learning how to string together shines and d-airs, I would always flub the wavedash. It's difficult because the shffl'd d-air has to be executed relatively quickly, but because of Falco's slow jump startup, the wavedash is actually kind of slow.

The thing you have to remember is that Falco's wavedash is very rhythmic. Just wavedash back and forth on FD a couple of times until you can cross the stage without messing up.

Then waveshine back and forth the same way.

Be sure to make a mental note of the wavedash timing.

Once you're comfortable with that, just work on standing still and shffling d-airs. Make a mental note of the speed at which your hands are moving. A shffl'd d-air is input pretty quickly on the controller. Even more so when you're moving with it.

After you're comfortable shffling d-airs while stationary, work on shffling d-airs on the move. Again, just make note of the timing.

What you're trying to achieve here, is a mental seperation of the two actions you're trying to input.
1.) Shffl'd d-air
2.) Waveshine

After you're shffling d-airs on the move easily, try putting the whole movement together, but keep it seperate.

Shffl'd d-air. Pause. Waveshine. Pause. Shffl'd d-air. Pause. Waveshine. Pause.

Do this over and over... As the movement becomes less conscious you'll get faster and faster.

Eventually you'll be chaning d-airs and waveshines back and forth across FD with relative ease.

You have to work into it. You can't pick up the controller and string Falco's attacks together immediately. Break these difficult movements down into small parts. Once you can do the small parts seperately, start doing them in succession.

Learning this is just like learning how to shoot a jump shot or hit a baseball. Break it down to something basic, and then build up.

Edit: FYI, this is not pillaring. Pillaring is a shield breaking technique that involves shines and d-airs against an opponent's shield.

:) thanks guys for the feedback, and i believe what you guys have said so far is defentiely correct. After reading what you guys had wrote, and trying to break it down into seperate steps, like hitting a baseball (which is kinda funny because i was teaching my little cousin how to the other day) as Mr. Bitter said.

Well after breaking it down into steps, i feel as if I am progressing. I am not as fast whatsoever as people like forward or shiz, but I believe that I am getting closer to it. I believe that i have a better grasp of it.

Thank you very much. And keep the comments coming if you guys believe that there are more tips that could be said.
