Dair random bounce?

I'm noticing that sometimes when I dair I will fall normally but randomly when I dair, I'll hover or even get a small bounce. I thought the bounce may be happening only when I tipper someone, but I've seen the bounce happen several times when I don't hit anyone. I thought it might bounce if you dair at the top of the jump, but I can't predictably reproduce it.

I've tried searching for an explanation but can't find anyone. I'm sure the answer is common knowledge. Does anyone else know what I'm talking about?

The small bounce that you are doing is just a double jump. You may have noticed that when you double jump, 2 small rings appear. It's the main way to do the "Ken Combo". Forward Air > Double Jump > Instant Down Air Tipper.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding what you're saying, but it definitely isn't a double jump. If I hit the jump button one time and I do a down air, 10% of the time Marth will bounce upward.

It's the same effect as the first time you do a forward B when recovering and you get that "bounce".

Does anyone know what I'm talking about? I'll try to find a video to illustrate, but it's definitely not a double jump.

Could be hitstun, after every attack you sort of freeze for a bit, so if you're not hitting someone that could be the difference.
Otherwise I have no idea what you are talking about LOL

I used to do that as well, Im almost positive your accidentally jumping with the control stick when you attempt to dair. Also, work on not using your A button for aerials except dair. You need the c-stick to keep control of your characters moment in air. Also you wont accidentally SD when trying to dair as Marth :p

Okay, I'll test this out tonight. Maybe I spoke too soon about this "definitely" not being a double jump.

I had been trying to break myself of using the c-stick to help me practice charged smashes (really new player) but I'll work on using the c-stick for dair. Thanks for the input everyone.

Use the c-stick whenever u can, and u can also charge smashes with the c-stick. Just press the c-stick and z at the same time, and charge to your heart's content.

c-sticking smash attacks isn't a noob thing
Most of the time in a real match you won't have time to charge one
