First off, as you're dashing, you flick the c-stick down (some people set R/L to attack and use that instead). Immediately after that, (once the c-stick returns to neutral) you flick the control stick up and press z (the grab button). This is the default way to do it.

Basically, it's attack > up > grab, using whatever button you have set for those. IIRC, there are some dacuses that only work with a specific layout or input.

There's also a different, supposedly easier way to do it, but I forgot.

EDIT: Just follow the guide Y-L linked, lmao.

WTF are you saying
You do dash->c down (to dash attack, c stick during dash results in dash attack, c down is easiest), then analog up + Z (z is used for an attack in this case) to cancel the dash attack into usmash. The reason why people set R/L to attack is because using Z gives you 1 less frame to do it because of the possibility of grabbing by mistake. R/L for attack has nothing to do with the c stick portion of it. The reason why you use Z (I use R) is because your thumb is on c stick and thus cannot hit A.

Basically the motion is dash->c down->analog up+Z.

It doesn't have to be grab, empyrean. The only reason anybody uses is grab is because it's more accessible and counts as an A input. THAT is why people change R/L to attack- not so they can start the dash attack, but so they don.Lt need to use Z or A to trigger the usmash.

Ah, I see, didn't know the function of z as an attack in this case. I guess I had misinterpreted it when people said they use R/L as attack for dacus, lol.

That 1 frame delay on Grab that Y-L mentioned is important to note, depending on the character you play. Since characters with a 4 frame jumpstart (eg. Marth, Roy, Wolf) have a 1 frame window to DACUS, that means that it's actually impossible for them to perform one by using Grab instead of Attack.
