Since Brawl was realease, I played a lot of Zero Suit Samus. I was quite decided to main her when I saw some of Claw's videos, and playing with her confirmed that I really like her playstyle. Today I've played a few matches and I think I'm starting to get it right. I've uploaded the matches I've played to youtube (well, most of them since Brawl's release, but many of them are not really decent :p )

So, I didn't post them in the ideo archive, well, cause I don't really think they are worth it, but I think I would appreciate some advice and comments on the way I play and what should I work on.

I don't mind comments here or on the youtube videos themselves.

So, here are my matches (with the characters I'm playing against in parenthesis):

Vs Fade

Vs MASAHIROx

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nL5WnH36Z9M (Pit)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2wRpeRuPIdY (DeDeDe)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cdHZk7fae4I (Fox)

Thanks for any input :)

The first guy you played, Fade, didn't really seem to know what he was doing.

I think you could have beaten Masa's TL a lil bit more easily if you had tried doing some B-sticking (I didn't see any wavebouncing in that match, at least). You also rely on the Dair a bit too much in some cases.

Don't underestimate the jab combos, either. If you can get good at JCing (I'm not) you can combo them into a downsmash, which helps.

Especially with characters with projectiles like TL, don't jump up to them. Use your UpB to hit them from below, or wait til they get lower for a side hit.

Overall, though, you do a pretty decent job as ZSS. I'd friendly you but my connection's a bit iffy at the moment.

Yea, I didnt know about B-sticking yet when I played those. Started doing it today, but hum, thatreally hurt my Down smash, I must get used to it, because right now, it's not looking good. I definetly see the use tho.

Yea, about the dair, I use it a bit too much, I noticed. I don't get punished as I should, which lead me to doing it more :ohwell: .

Yea, jab is something I almsot never used. Mostly because I never know when to use it. I'll try to do what I can tho.

Projectile spamming is really hurtin me as ZSS. May it be vs Pit, Links, space animals, DeDeDe and the like, I always find myself getting a lot more damage than I should. Seems my approaches arent doing well against those.

I wouldn't mind playing you if your connection get better :) .

Anyway, thanks for the advice!

And yea, Masa's TL is scary.

B-sticking really isn't necessary, but the wavebounce is a good mindgame/technique/blueberry muffin (where did that come from?). Anyways, if things go the way they are for tournaments, most likely nobody will be able to B-stick in matches because they won't be allowed to change their controls (I hope we can at least turn tap-jump off though, I always screw up my up-B with it on.)

EDIT: Afterthought - I tend to follow up my dash attacks with a jab combo and then try to hit them with a charged stun.

This ^

dash -> jab combo works wonderfully with Zamus. As does glide toss /w armor piece -> jab at the start of a match

And if anyone comes up with a good way to deal with the spacies, let me know. I can handle DeDeDe okay it seems, and Diddy's popgun isn't bad, but Falco/Wolf's blaster shots are just ridiculous, especially since Wolf's blasters don't even collide with Zamus' stun shot, so you can't counter them that way.

Against (T)Link I'd suggest spamming your blaster more then usual, as even an uncharged shot will deflect the boomerangs and cancel out arrows.

mostly unrelated: playing on Bridge of Eldin against Falco sucks

Against spacies spamming their blasters, I tend to shorthop and RAR towards them over the shots. Another option is to just use Zamus's crawl to get closer, that should force them to stop firing and do something else.

haha yeah, I was actually thinking about the crawl earlier today, noting that a few characters could do it, but not many (Zamus, Snake... don't know who else), and wondering why or what uses it might have. It never occurred to me to use it during the Falco/Wolf games I played tonight however. I'll try that next time

I will add though that spacies are probably slightly easier in person than on wifi, the input lag is just enough that jumping in between or over blaster shots from Wolf is extremely difficult to pull off.

Pikachu, Luigi, ZSS, Sheik, Snake... that's all I know off the top of my head for a crawl.

I've been trying out the crawl myself, because a few projectile spammers give me trouble. At the start of the match, it's best to make use of the super speed of glide tossing projectiles against projectile guys, but after that I really don't know. I know now that Zamus's crawl goes under link's boomerang, which is nice. Also, her down-b off the ground can work as a surprise flying shorthopped sex-kick. Heh, that sounds way cool when spoken. I think a combination of short hopped jumps(airdodge) landing right into a crawl and shielding is the way to go. I need more match-ups against a few projectile spammers to be sure.
