Customizable music?

Hello everyone. I have a question. Recently, i've been watching a lot of project m tournies, and i've noticed that oftentimes, the music for the character's victory animations and the music in the stages is different than the default choices available. Can anyone tell me how to do this? If it works with 3.6?( I heard it was buggy). The possibility of being able to customize project m to my liking is very exciting, but a big problem I have is that i've looked up a few guides online and am completely confused...If anyone can explain how to do this in an easy to follow manner, I would really appreciate it. And please be patient with me. I've never done anything like this before, so if I ask you to elaborate, please don't get annoyed. Thank you.

It's pretty much as easy as replacing costumes (if you don't know how to do this, I believe there is a guide at the top of this forum) You can google a listing of Brawl's music tracks and their IDs then it's simply a matter of finding a bstrm you like (there are plenty on brawl vault) and changing it's name to whichever song you want to replace. There are good guides that are easily searchable and the process really isn't difficult, just play around with it some.

I'm sorry, but I didn't understand most of what you said. For instance, what is a bstrm? Is brawl vault a website of some kind? Brawl's music has IDs? Would that matter in any way? Also, I forgot to ask, does it make a difference if I am using a laptop or desktop? PC or MAC? Where would I find the guides you mentioned? Also, one last thing: should I download 3.6 first before I try to change the music? Or after? Thank you.

BRSTM - The wii audio format.

Brawl Custom Music - Repository for music already in the BRSTM format.

Brawl Vault - Website that host a variety of Smash Bros. related mods, including BRSTMs.

What you'd want to do to get custom music is to obtain a BRSTM of the song(s) that you want, either located on the sites above or by converting an audio to the BRSTM format yourself. Once you have a BRSTM, you'd rename it to the ID of the song you'd wish to replace in game and would place it inside the "strm" folder on the sd card (SD Card Root > projectm > pf > sound > strm folder). You can find a list of song IDs attached to this post.

Desktop or laptop does not matter as you're, for the most part, file transferring to get music into the game. I believe mac shouldn't matter either unless there's some complicated form of file transfer that macs cannot do compared to windows.

And yes, you should already have P:M 3.6 downloaded so that you have access to the proper folders that you need to place the music in.

That helped me out a lot, thanks. I know how to convert files to BRSTMs now, but I have a few questions. First, are you sure this list of tracks and their IDs is accurate? Second, why is it that when I go to the strm file, not all of the BRSTMs are listed, just a few? Does this mean anything? Lastly, how would I change the name of the song so that it appears that way in the game? I am using a PC laptop, if that matters.

The tracklist is accurate because I made it myself.

Not all the BRSTMs are present in the strm folder because aside from the custom music that comes with P:M / that you add, the game loads music directly from the disc. Anything you add to that folder takes priority of the music on disc.

To change music titles, you'd want to either:
- Get Brawlbox and open "info.pac" located inside your "info2" folder, then modify "miscdata[140]."
- Get song manager which has an interface that allows for easily changing the display name (as well as adding music to the game in general). Narpas's link touches up on it I think, but the program itself is pretty straightforward so it shouldn't be confusing. Upon changing a song title, you'd have to press "enter" for the changes to save.

For changed titles to display correctly in the "my music" section, you'd want to open your newly modified "info.pac" and export "miscdata[140]," then open "mu_menumain.pac" inside of the folder "menu2" and replace "MiscData[7]" with the exported file.

Okay, I understand that, for the most part. I downloaded song manager, but for some reason, it is listed as a zipped folder named Brawlmanagers-3.5.1. When I open it, it presents me with a long list, which I have no idea what i'm supposed to do at that point. Also, I have a question. When making your own BRSTMs by converting youtube files into mp3 files and then converting those into BRSTMs, do they have to be a certain length? What will happen if a song is, say 3 minutes, but the song ends before the match does? Will it just loop from the beginning instantly, or is there some sort of delay? Is it a better idea to find music that lasts at least 8 minutes, so that it continues throughout the entire match? What do you recommend? Next, how do you change victory themes for characters? Do they have to be a certain length? Lastly, how do I change the menu music and stage selection music? Does it have to be a certain length? I'm sorry for being so thorough, but I want to make sure I do this right. I appreciate your patience.

uhh. do you know how to unzip files?

And I don't make my own brstms. but you need to loop them yourself. no length requirements for any.
but an 8 min song is going to eat away at your 2gb limit.

I see. How do I know if I go over the limit by accident? Does this mean I should try to have the songs about 4 mins or less? I plan on replacing a lot.

So if I plan on replacing many songs, then what would you recommend for the average length? Does this mean 2GB is my limit for songs? I'm sorry, but i'm somewhat confused.

You unzip the file and you're given several different programs; one of which is the song manager. If this "long list" you're referring to is the actual song manager, then you'd hit "file > change directory" and select your sd card.

BRStMs do not have to be a certain length, but you have to be wary of the remaining space on your sd card. Longer brstms take up more space, so you'd run out pretty fast if all of them are too long.

As long as you set the brstm to loop, then it wont matter the length, when the song ends, even if it fades out, it'll repeat. Whether or not it delays or instantly loops depends on how you loop it.

To change victory themes, you'd want to look at that list I gave you and locate the IDs for victory themes. The BRSTM must be named after that and placed inside the same directory as the other music files (the "strm" folder). It does not have to be a certain length. There is never a "length" when it comes to BRSTMs.

Changing the menu music is the same as replacing the stage music; just rename the BRSTM to the correct song ID (which is also inside that list I gave you).

So if I plan on replacing many songs, then what would you recommend for the average length? Does this mean 2GB is my limit for songs? I'm sorry, but i'm somewhat confused.
The default Project M extraction takes up 848MBs. You have a little over an entire gigabyte to fill up with custom music.
