Custom Music problems

I recently took the plunge and installed Homebrew onto my Wii and I am currently using PM Homebrew No Wifi with everything up to date. Everything went great with Homebrew and all that; PM loaded quickly and played without any issues. However, since that worked and I was still in the customization mood, I decided to grab some BRSTM files from Brawl Custom Music so that I could upgrade the soundtrack. I meticulously followed the step-by-step process of renaming the files so that they would be properly linked within the game, and the first batch seemed to work great. The songs played and I was able to complete matches without any issue. I decided to add a few more BRSTMs to my collection today, and I followed the same exact re-naming process for these new files and everything appears to be exactly right. Unfortunately, things have now gone completely awry.

When I load a match and a custom song is queued up by the game's jukebox, it plays for probably 20 seconds or so. At that point, a bunch of audio glitchy-ness happens for a few seconds and then the original song (the one I replaced with a custom track) begins to play. After that happens, none of the custom music I have works any more. The game plays fine, but the music is just the standard catalog.

When I inspected the SD card to see what was up, the folder that used to hold all of the BRSTMs was filled with a bunch of corrupted files and folders that I could only delete by formatting the whole SD card. I have tried formatting and re-loading the SD card with BootMii and PM multiple times now, and the same issue continues to happen. It doesn't matter which stage I go to or which custom song plays; they all cause the same issue. I tried locking the SD card one time to see if I could prevent the file corruption from happening and maybe fix the problem, but all that did was just cause the game to either freeze during stage loading or load an actual Brawl stage (when I went to FD one time, it loaded Brawl FD and then froze before the countdown finished).

I'm a bit perplexed by this. I'm not sure whether the SD card is the problem or if my Wii is somehow the underlying cause. The SD card is a 1 GB card that I've had for years, so normally I would assume that it was the problem. However, because I also just installed Homebrew and BootMii, I'm not certain that the Wii isn't the problem (perhaps I messed something up during the installation process, though no installation errors popped up and everything worked fine yesterday).

Hopefully I will be able to try a different SD card tomorrow if the problem is still persisting at that point, but in case that doesn't work out, I figured that I might as well try my luck with posting here in hopes of finding a fix. I don't think I left out any critical equipment-related information, but if I did, my apologies.

Thanks for reading and for any answers/suggestions.

-Update-
Changing the SD card format to FAT32 at 4096 bytes got every custom song to work except one, so after reformatting again, I put in a re-downloaded version of that specific track (in case it was a bad file) and changed it from being set at Dracula's Castle to being set at WarioWare (in case the custom stage was the issue). This seemingly solved everything; I tested every one of my custom tracks and they all worked perfectly.

...then I went to Saffron City and after about a minute, the glitch happened and Spear Pillar's track began playing instead of the Saffron City track (which I didn't customize, but P:M did themselves). As usual, the glitch corrupted the whole BRSTM folder, so I am currently re-formatting for probably the 10th time. It seems like the custom stage + custom music combination is what's causing issues, but that theory isn't perfect because Skyloft worked great with the custom track I loaded for it.

I'll update again if I am able to make any further progress or if I end up trying a different SD card.

-Update 2-

So I tried adding a few more songs today, and that ended up not working at all. The glitch happened again, but that really wasn't much of a surprise despite the recent success I was having. However, after reformatting the card yet again, it now appears to be fried. None of the devices I have that read SDs cards even detect it at this point, so I guess I'll now do what I probably should've done initially: get a new SD card that is bigger than this one was. With any luck, the problems will cease with the new card and I won't have to update this ever again.

Defragmenting the SD card solves the BRSTM problem.
What causes it is the result of running low on space on the card, or transferring multiple files repeatedly onto the card.
Aside from defragmenting it, an alternative solution is to drag every file off of the sd card at once, and place them back on at the same time.

If it happens again I will definitely try Defragging, but thankfully this most recent attempt is still working fine. Oddly enough, Defrag is basically the only option I haven't tried yet in my attempts to fix any potential SD card issues.

I have been moving all of the nearly 600 MB-worth of files onto the card at once so I should be avoiding that potential issue right now, but I suppose that I might run into that issue in the future if I try to tweak the song list. I'll probably just upgrade to a larger SD card if I run into trouble at that point, and hopefully that will be the end of my issues.

Thanks so much for the advice!
