Custom Control Schemes

So I'm a little curious as to what your some of your guys' controller schemes are. So if you could post who your main is, what the difference is between your control scheme and the default controls, and a little bit about why you have your controls set that way, that would be great. This is all assuming you use a Gamecube controller. If you're using a different controller please say so. I'll start.

I main :ganondorf:.

I turned tap jump off, set R to jump, and set Y to side taunt.

For one, I don't like tap jump. It makes me jump when I don't want to jump. And I think that when you turn it off, you have more control over your character. I set R to jump because, in Brawl, the only way you could short hop Ganon's dair without any landing lag was if you set R or L to jump. I also changed R to jump so I could use rising aerials more easily with characters like Lucas, Ness, Mewtwo, and Yoshi.

I set Y to side taunt because, in Project M, they set the footstool jump to the taunt buttons. And to change beams with Samus you have to hit side taunt, so you can switch beams much faster without having to reach all the way down to the D-pad.

Everything else is set to default.

I use a classic controller and I had to completely rearrange the settings to make it feel like a normal Gamecube controller. I main Link so I get rid of tap jump since some good tactics are from the lack of tap jump. I do have a different setting for Sheik if I ever use Sheik for Dacus only. Otherwise I don't change much.

Tap jump is off for me, Y is jump, X is grab, R is jump.

Though I might change is soon so that A is jump, Y is attack and the rest is like the one above.

Tap jump is off, but I have d-pad as jump so I have more out of shield options but use Y as my primary jump button. L is footstool/down taunt and the rest is the exact same.

There are things I really like about the CCPro so much that I actually considered using it instead, but the R-shoulder button is so quick to press that it throws my wd timing way off. Very similar to the light pressing on the wifi-safe versions.

You have the D-pad set to jump? That is..... odd. I feel like that would take control away because you would be taking your thumb off of your control stick.

I use Y as my jump button, but I use the dpad to jump for upsmash out of shield. I can't jump cancel up smash with the Y button, so the dpad works best for me for that situation.

I'm going to get so much hate for this but...
I use Wii-Chuk. With tap jump ON. I have C and Z swapped but use neither in most circumstances, and Dpad Up set to Usmash. I use Dpad down for any shield action (I like how it's so close to the A button. The movement of my right thumb feels natural) and Dpad left for grabs. I'll admit it took some work to teach myself to SH and WD with tap jump, but I did and now it's a part of my style. I've come to notice that when I'm playing well, I hold the two in a sort of rifle stance, with the Nunchuk closer to my body than the Wii Remote.

Edit: I main :roypm:

Wow. Those are quite the controls. It's been ages since I used a Wii-chuk.

I haven't changed much. The most notable thing is setting X to grab because I never used it to jump and I've always hated the Z button. Everything else is basically Melee defaults because I played it for so long and got so used to it all.

I am a fan of tap jump so I leave it on. I use it all the time, mostly for midair jumps and up-B out of shield.

I took the spring out of my R button which really helps with wavedashing and powershielding. The L button still has the spring for light-pressing stuff like L-cancelling and light shielding if it ever makes it into the game.

I switch Z between attack for DACUS and up-Taunt for taunt-cancelling and the potential of footstooling (the latter of which I never use).

Rumble is off because rumble is bad.

tap jump off (obviously)
Y is now grab

thats really it :/ i use L for l cancelling/teching, R for shielding so left those to default
i like X for jump cuz that way i can just slide my thump sideways off of it if i want to short hop (not all that good at just pressing and releasing quickly)

Currently, I'm running this:

R-trigger with removed springs, broken tab
C-stick and Control stick positions swapped

-Roy control scheme (somewhat common Roy setup for easy DACUS application)

Tap Jump: Off
L: Attack
R: Shield
X: Footstool
Y: Jump

-Luigi control scheme (setup tuned for comfortable wavedashing, with the A button for jump being larger and easier to hit than X or Y, and is nicely centered for your thumb, jump being a function you'll use a lot for wave-tech with Weegee)

A: Jump
B: Grab
Y: Attack
X: Special

Default GC from Melee, tap jump off, footstool with right thumb D-pad, and Claw Y for jump and A for DACUS.

X -> Down taunt/footstool (those who change something to up taunt are incorrect)
L I've been messing with -- debating between attack for DACUS (if I pick up a character with a useable DACUS I'd put it on) or jump

That's it for me -- tap jump kept on, D-Pad I tried switching around to jump but never really used it
