So I'm not sure if anyone else as asked this but I have been thinking about how if at all, will the custom things be used in competitive play, particularly the Miifighters, like I wonder if those characters are even going to be allowed in any tournaments, as they still technically characters. As for custom moves I feel like someone will figure out how the custom moves can be used, and figure out which combinations are the most viable and stuff like that, but what do you all think.

All custom moves should be allowed, there is no reason against them.

I personally think that custom move sets should be legal, with items banned. The amount of variety and potential for a constantly evolving meta imo is why custom moves are so exciting. Now we can all tweak our attacks and truly create a strategy from the ground up since we are able to select different attacks that enhance our style of play

I agree and it provides an opportunity to give people that have a bad match up against certain characters to be able to handle certain characters better. Not to mention custom moves also allow you to try something new when you get tired of using the default character.

Exactly because the Meta Game need to develop, And to make Smash 4 a competitive aspect and get bigger is we used the custom moves.

There's been plenty of discussion about it. The general consensus that I seem to see (as a biased person who wants custom moves all legal) is that on the 3DS, definitely legal, due to everyone being able to pre-set their own customs. This may be restriced to later in the game's life (they take a good while to unlock), or it could simply be on the player to not enter a customs tourney if they're scared of seeing a move they've not practiced with/against.

For the U, it may be a whole different issue. Sponsors sometimes buy new setups, which would need all the unlocks again. If the 3DS linkup stuff can let an unlimited number of Us get all of the moves easily, then it becomes more logistically feasible from a time-consumed stance. If not, that makes it much harder, and thus U-version custom tourneys will likely be fewer and further between.

So, from a purely gameplay stance, I say allow them - they make the game more exciting, and can fix some sucktastic options that characters have by default. From a logistics stance, it depends on the extents to which participants and hosts are willing to go.

I'm in support of them just because of some of the mindgames involved with them; not using one of your custom specials and keeping that ace up your sleeve while your opponent is trying to guess as to what custom special you have, until you finally find the most opportune moment to use it.

It's a common thing in competitive Pokemon, too. "I haven't revealed my ____ move to my opponent yet" or whatever.

Other than G&W's 1 or 9 hammer they seem pretty balanced.
Actually, even that is balanced. Every time you get a 1, you take 5% damage. Not only that, but even if you do get a 9, it still has to connect.

Custom moves or not, the sponsors would still need to unlock all the characters too, so this seems like kind of a moot point.

The whole concept is going to screw with tier list fetishists.
