I have no idea why I'm making this thread, it probably won't contribute to anything, but I feel like sharing this.
After seeing the amazing work that @BaganSmashBros has put into his Ridley mod, I'm reaffirmed with the idea that good custom character mods are possible. There are several that I've pondered about since I was introduced to Brawl modding, but my personal lack of skills required for something like this holds me back. Guess that means that even if I never get around to making these characters, alone or otherwise, it should hopefully inspire somebody else to.

BEHOLD THE LIST THAT THE THREAD TITLE REFERS TO
  1. Rundas (Metroid): Metroid has been one of the few franchises represented in the original Super Smash Bros. that never got a real newcomer (Zero Suit Samus is the same person as Samus, so she doesn't really count). You could say that this is because there are no other Metroid characters that really matter besides Samus, but I beg to differ. I specifically refer to two characters: Ridley being one (see above) and Rundas. Rundas does a great job of both representing the Metroid Prime subseries and adding to the roster's list of ice-based characters, so far only featuring Ice Climbers.
  2. Grunt (Wars): Famicom Wars, Advance Wars, Battalion Wars. No matter what you call it, they're all part of the Nintendo's Wars series. And what's one of the few things that's featured in every single game in the franchise (lookin' at you, Andy)? Grunts. The most basic units in the game and front-of-the-box material as far as infantry units, the Grunt is the best possible choice for representing the Wars franchise as a character in Smash. And while Grunts themselves aren't capable of much besides shooting their rifles in the actual games, Smash has always been open for interpretation as far as movesets. @splat applies the moveset switching concept to Grunt in an interesting way in his thread here. Additionally, as you can see in the picture below, the design of Grunts varies radicalyl between the different factions in the game (in this case Battalion Wars). Thus, instead of just taking one model and giving him different recolors, his alternate appearances could be these different designs, so even all the game's factions are represented in-game!
(from left to right: Western Frontier Grunt, Xylvanian Grunt, Iron Legion Grunt, Tundran Territories Grunt, Solar Empire Grunt. Anglo Isles Grunt unpictured)
  3. Krystal (Star Fox): Say what you will about Krystal, I personally like the character and think that she'd be great for Smash. However, you may be thinking, "Wouldn't she just be a clone like all the other Star Fox characters?" And to that, I say, "No." This is because the game that introduced Krystal into the Star Fox franchise also introduced her staff, a versatile and interesting weapon, particularly for Smash. This guy on deviantART, EvilWaluigi, has even created a rather detailed moveset idea for her here that stays very true to her source material. Regarding the, uh... "tribal" design... I think it'd be better off as an alternate costume, if anything. Besides, I like her jumpsuit from the later games more (see below for Star Fox Command design).
  4. Mach Rider: This one's a bit of a toughie because Mach Rider's source game doesn't give much to go on as far as moveset material. Of course, if Captain Falcon could get a moveset basically out of nowhere, so could Mach Rider (Heck, it'd be easier, since official artwork shows him as having a pistol of some sort). I like the interpretation by AngstyGuy on deviantART, seen here, even though the actual moveset seems rather bland. I definitely see it as a good starting point for making a unique moveset, however.
And that's all I really got. I'd add more, but I don't really see any reason to (this list is pretty pointless as-is anyway). Well, hope something good will come out of this, by me or otherwise.
