Curious to know what your dl/up speeds are on your Wii U's

I know the lag in my matches is definitely on my end since I live in a town home and there's a ton of interference. I was using testmy.net on the Wii U and it was telling me my dl/up was 5.6/2.4 and that's horrible. I'm on wifi and sadly it can't get much better than that since the router is in my room and the Wii U is in the living room. I have had maybe 3 lag free fights and they were awesome and I'd like to have more of those. That way, I can only blame the other person for being better and not the lag.

I'd like to know what others have as their dl/up speeds on their wii's so I can get a better idea of what to try to shoot for. Maybe I can make a router become a repeater or a wireless bridge or maybe buy a new Wifi usb adapter, I dunno. I'll try anything at this point. If there was only a way to get the Wii U on my 5Ghz wifi, then all my problems would be solved.

I remember reading elsewhere that the Wii U caps at 10 down, so that isn't as bad as you think for the Wii U. The big thing you want to look at is variance in your wifi, as that will cause the biggest problem. Your average is 5.6, but in a 10 second span it bounces from 8 down to 1.2 is where you'll have the unexpected lag issues. I live in an apartment complex and spent some 6 months learning all this stuff before I could finally get maintenance to fix some extra access points in my apartment for a hard line. (Wireless Interference protocol was lowering my wifi quality with the 30 different wireless points I found in my building, so a hard line was the only way to get around it.)

I get 40 down on my internet, consistantly with my PC, and the Wii U for me on Wifi averaged at about 5 down/2.5 up. When attendance was low in our apartment building this was great, but once more wifis got set up it would bounce with a 70% variance. Ouch! I hardlined it and now it averages at 8 down/4 up and it's that max of 10 down with a lower variance of 6.5 down. Much better. Only time I hit lag now is if my opponent has it. I can even play against most japanese players I find in for glory and see vary little lag. It is nice.

PS, I use testmy.net also. I find it a lot more accurate than anything else I've found. And I've even been able to look up my PS3's speed (not much better than my Wii U on wifi, but much faster on ethernet.)

Hmm. I would like to hardwire my connection, but the router is in my bedroom and the Wii U is in my living room. I'd prefer to have my computer hardwired for priority and sadly the living room isn't close to my bedroom. I've tried setting my wifi up on different channels and putting the Wii U in DMZ mode and they really don't have that much of a change. I think I'm just going to get a client bridge set up and hardwire my Wii through that. Thanks for the reply, friend.

I had a similar problem with my apartment layout (Only working port for the modem was in the bedroom). Luckily for me, my desktop got 'upgraded' into a gaming rig and is hooked up to the tv, so when I was able to get a maintenance guy to fix up the connections in my other rooms I could hook up the modem in there. Then I just got my router hooked up near my TV, hard lined my Wii U, gaming rig and PS3 to it and boom. Everything is good.

If you don't have a lot of neighbors, I'd recommend getting a wireless scanning software to pick up information on what you're neighbors have. That way, you can see what channels they are using and other info that can get picked up by a computer and make adjustments to your router to compensate. (Change broadcast channels, use dual band to get your computers and consoles to stop competing for bandwidth, etc)

It might help buy you some time while you figure out what you need to more easily keep playing.

If the Wii U could connect to the 5Ghz bandwith, everything would be perfect. I use Wifi Analyzer to help with that. It's unfortunate that I pick up a ton of other wifi networks out there.
