CSS Troubles

I am trying to edit the character selection screen to remove the character's names from the images, but when I remove the images from sc_selcharacter_en.pac, there is a grey bar where said names would be.
I also wanted to flip the location of the players and the characters on the CSS, which I did in the CSS Organizer. However, although the file was changed, the game loaded up normally. What's going on?

I am sorry if this sounds vague, it's my first time on this forum.

The black in the images acts as transparency, so instead of deleting them, make the images all black, and it should work

Hmm, is the filesize bigger when you do it then? Because if that's the case, see if you can reduce filesize somehow, by lowering texture resolution and/or switching to CMPR; be careful tho, as menus, these might not work with any texture
