Critique my Marth, please

It's been far too long, but I finally got to play some competitive-level friendlies yesterday. I have quite a few videos, and I'm hoping to get some help with my Marth. You can view my old videos on my YouTube profile if you want to see how I played back then.

Unfortunately, I had played nothing but a bunch of computers for the past couple of weeks, so the first matches aren't too good. If you want to take a look, I'll post one of them:

After that, I guess I remembered that I was playing a human, not a computer who could shine. My edgeguarding is still really out of practice and I make a few blatant tech skill mistakes, but these are pretty good. Here are the better videos of me against his Fox. These are the ones I really need critique on. The first two are my favorites, and the last is a loss.

Also, here is a Marth ditto (I'm the green Marth) and a match against his Falcon (his Falcon had never played another person before).

Will be edited in soon

And, on a side note, here's a video with a ridiculously awesome double-stick tech :). I'm the Falco, and yes, I know I'm not very good with him... yet.

Will be edited in soon

Thanks.

You suffer from a lot of the same problems I do... but I'd say you're better than I am.

You roll a lot. Why?

You down-air randomly... why?

Less F-smash, more F-tilt. MOAR GRAB!

MOAR FOLLOW-THROUGGHHH! GRAHH!!

Dash dance grab when you're chain throwing Fox maybe? And why don't you tap A between grabs?

You shield some of your L-Cancels. I do too, but it's probably something to work on...

Counter edgeguarding... after the first one (in the 2nd match) where you just kept doing it and doing it... that was the perfect time to hit him in the face with a non-sweet spotted fair, maybe even a well placed spike...

Charged f-smash edgeguard? Try d-tilts or edgehogging next time? =/

When Fox illusioned back to recover near the end of the last match, it would have been so easy to stop. You really need to work on edgeguarding. Most Foxs would have made you pay for that mistake...

And I stopped watching after the second match since the other two were against Fox still anyways.

Don't take anything I say as something to look into until somebody else here confirms it. I'm not the model Marth either. Heh.

Thanks for the advice. Rolling is a continual problem, and while I have the tech skill to not shield after an L-cancel, I do it out of habit. Also, as I said, my edgeguarding was HORRIBLE today due to not playing/only playing computers since my last videos.

I was comparing those two with each other. M2K is amazing, of course he's fun to watch, HE'S M2k!

I just didn't want to re-state the obvious.

One of the things that seperate M2k and KDJ are their edgegaurding capabilities. No one else does it like they do, Ken even commented in his MLG interview that he did not like the invincibility after grabbing the edge technique. No one else edgegaurds as well as M2k and KDJ do due to there insane edgegaurd timing. I personally think KDJ is better, probably not in Marth dittoes but overall. Too bad KDJ barely plays out of state anymore.

So... could I get any more critique? Sorry, it's just that the whole topic has been about other players :chuckle: .

Woah, you roll a ton. Replace that with DD camping interrupted with the occasional WD to make you more mobile. A mobile marth is a hard to hit marth, and when he misses/spotdodges/whatever has lag, you can grab him out of the grab.

Make your marth faster, and take out the really bad habit of rolling. It may make you invincible for a bit, but at the end of the roll, you leave yourself really open for anything. The reason techchasing works is the same reason that rollspamming is a horrible idea.

I've been playing too many computers/not playing at all. It's really unfortunate; I only know one person who owns the game who really cares about it (who I rarely get to play with), and I'm too young to go to tournaments. Oh well, I guess I'll just wait until Brawl when I can actually play other people. Consider this topic ended, I guess.

Thanks guys.
