Crazy Tournament Exhibition Matches

So, there's a lot of these games that are never used in tournaments, and for very good reason. A lot of it is broken, difficult to follow, and absolutely unfit for competitive play.

However, sometimes, that stuff is really, really fun to watch. Do you think there's a place for silly exhibition matches at major tournaments? Do you think pro players would sign up if there was nothing on the line? Something like a Dabuz vs. Abadango rematch on Pac-Land. Or M2K vs. ZeRo vs. Ridley. Or 2v2v2v2 on Palutena's Temple. Crazy stuff like that. The whole purpose would be hype building, no tournament standings, no money matches, just a stupid game that's fun to watch.

Do you think the competitive community would approve? Do you think people will try-hard anyway and take too much time camping or stalling in a match with absolutely nothing on the line?

For one, I don't think there'd be much time for that. And really, I wouldn't want to see that - stupid games like that are ones I can do with my own friends, and if the pros are just messing around the whole time it doesn't make it any more interesting. I'd rather just see more of the actual tournament.

I agree and I personally think everyone should start uploading local tournament videos, I would Love to see that. So many good smash players out there.

There was a banned-stages melee tournament on stream last weekend. I enjoyed it immensely - more so than normal Melee. I would certainly enjoy side events like this.

I wouldn't mind seeing the pros doing crazy **** when the tournament isn't going on. I remember seeing this set which was Mew2king vs. some random guy that wasn't a pro, and Mew2king let the guy set the rules each time. One match they played Tiny Melee on Fourside, and another they played with Poke Balls on. It was probably the most entertaining Melee set I've ever seen.

So yeah, I would totally watch exhibition matches which are completely crazy and throw all of the tournament rules out the window.

No 2v2v2v2, though. I like watching one side vs. the other side.
