I have tried multiple times to fix this issue with custom characters crashing when I load them on any stage. This only happens with custom models / textures / characters mind you. Some models still work, but I find that most of the time I can't use custom models if I want to have custom stages. Without custom stages on, everything works A-OK and I can add as many costumes as I want. Is it a problem with .rel files? 3.0 stages? Old character packs? Any info / insight on this issue would be amazingly helpful, thanks.

Hmm... that's odd. I haven't had that happen to me before, but the only reasons I could think of for the game to crash is if you put the custom stage over the wrong slot or if you didn't use the right .rels. I know the game crashes if you have two modules with the same ID, too. Could you give some more detail though? What costumes and stages were you using, where was it was crashing, was it a soft or hard (Beeep) crash, etc.

It's sometimes a soft crash where the stage won't load, but most often times a BEEEEEP crash. I am using countless character models, but a good example (I cant link it.) is a melee texture / model for Samus. And I'm not sure about two modules with the same IDs. Could you go into more detail about what the modules are?

Modules are like frames of reference for the game that tells it which files to load in certain instances. If you look in the pf folder, there will be a modules folder with a bunch of .rel files in it. The ones that start with st_ are the stage modules. If you use a hex editor, you can change the ids. If you haven't touched anything in the modules folder, then I don't think it's that if you put on a corresponding stage. Since the issue is when you use custom stages, it's probably not the models, since the only problem would be lag. How are you adding stages? What stages are crashing? Which stages do they go over? When exactly are the crashes?

I use stages from 3.02 like Mewtwo2000's Crateria over norfair and Scout's Planet Wisp over Kongo Jungle 64. I delete the original files (.pac) first, then replace it with new one. I never use windows way of replacing it as it gave me problems in the past. I do the same process with .rel files. The stages don't individually crash. The character will crash on any custom stage, or any normal stage. The crashes happen as soon as I load a stage. Thanks for spending the time to respond and help out btw!

EDIT: This only happens with custom characters. Normal unedited characters WILL NOT crash on any stage.

Hmm... So if the stages aren't crashing alone, then that can't be the problem... As far as costumes go, they usually don't crash unless they're corrupted, missing, on the wrong character, or don't have the required bones. I've never really had problems myself. I know some costumes won't work for certain movesets (Sonic Boom KTH costume with PM 3.5 moveset) but others should work fine. Maybe try formatting your card and re-adding the costume like this: re-download whatever costume is giving you trouble, find files called Fit*Char*XX.pac and/or Fit*Char*XX.pcs, if you don't have both use Costume Manager to copy to other pac/pcs, then rename the XX (number value) part to "00", put them into the pf\fighter\*Char* folder and replace files using Windows method (what I use, but don't use for brstms), then finally load the character's first slot in game. If you get a crash, let me know and I will test it myself.

Thanks a ton man! I appreciate the help! I tried replacing the Samus costume with windows and redownloading, and for the first time in forever I got it to work! Thankyou! I'll let you know if anything comes up.

No problem! If you want to add CSPs and cosmetic stuff for the costume, go to the pinned costume tutorial thread and there should be a link to the Brawl Costume Manager. It makes things a lot quicker. The Windows method usually always works except with brstms, since they can glitch out and play other songs sped up.

Ok! I've found another problem! I think the answer to all my problems was that I was renaming certain .pac files to fit a certain character slot. For example, I'd take a Rosalina reskin for peach, rename it from FitPeach00.pac/pcs to FitPeach01.pac/pcs. Is there anyway I can rename it so that it doesn't crash?

E D I T: It's not renaming, it's a super fixable problem with BP's, I just never used a pallet to go with it. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
