CPU's better this time around?

I just watched a stream on Twitch and this is what happened...

So this guy is playing against Pikachu with Link, and Pikachu has like 68% and Link around 30%, I believe.

Link gets chased off the ledge, Pikachu follows, up-smashes him into the down-part of the stage on which Link bounces and gets KOd, Pika perfectly recovering afterwards.

It surprised me so much!

From watching Coba's stream they are insanely strong this time around. They are very good at shielding, dodging, and are much more aggressive.
I'll wait until I see somone like M2K fight them before I give my final judgement, but yeh they are quite strong now.

I think I have seen the same channel! Pikachu(CPU) looked somewhat smarter than in previous iterations! The CPU seems to take a little more risk and covers the sides of the map better!

From only the roughly two hours I've seen it looks like the CPU's are much more varied, as in they switch play styles fairly often and keep you guessing, instead of being an extremely predictable and boring Lvl 9 Falco. Of course I could be wrong as I don't have any hands on experience, but people are having much more trouble predicting them than they would have in previous iterations.

It's odd, but I've got a mixed opinion. I've won a fair amount of matches against Lv 9 CPUs, even using the newcomers. So there's that. However, sometimes they really do surprise me. I've been way ahead in matches when one of them suddenly starts to juggle me and score a quick KO. I'm interested in seeing how the CPU controls the other characters.

What skill levels are the CPUs set at? If they're set at level 1, then something is "clearly" wrong here.
You can change it- anywhere from Lv 1 to Lv 9.

I think the settings are pre-set for the demo...
I'm only saying this, because in Brawl, the level 1s are anything but puny if they're able to shield-grab perfectly. I would think that the level 1s would show very minimal resistance, much like how they were handled in Melee.

I've seen a match with a human player and two CPU's, FFA. They always aimed at the player and barely touched each other and became dumb when he was KOed. Don't know about 1-on-1 though. There's also been a 4 Villager CPUs, FFA, and they didn't seem to be that skillful.

It IS hard to tell if it's a matter of player inexperience or smarter AI, but they do seem to be roughly as good as Brawl CPUs at punishing every slight mistake, and sometimes at least a bit smarter about being aggressive.

At least they don't suicide constantly like PM CPUs, but the AI kinda reminds me of PM's otherwise.

Let's not forget Amiibos, which can reach CPU-Lvl 50 and are supposed to learn from players.

Picking up your main and practising with a Amiibo might actually teach you a thing or two about the character! Very handy
Too bad it's N3DS and Wii U only :L

Well they are not really smart or aggressive. They seem fine, using a lot of projectiles. Megaman is the only one who killed himself while I played. But if you just leave two CPUs fighting each other, you have to be VERY lucky to see a winner there, because they are pretty defensive and nothing really happens in two minutes.

To me they seemed more difficult from the start, but to be fair I wasn't familiar with the feel of the controls and I was using characters I don't normally use. I do think after a while though it will become less of a challenge.

K I now have hype for the amiibos

I'm starting to speculate things, like
What if you exchange amiibos? Will you be fighting their experience?

Why would you
Unpredictibillity is what helps you as a fighter
depends on how the people using it play, one of my friends just uses b moves all the time with nothing else, id rather have an amiibo that switches it up so i would buy a different one at that point

CPU link definitely attempted to stage spike me a few times.

also, even at low levels they avoid many things i'm trying to test out and get the hang of (lol).

one computer also hunted down opponents to throw them into entei, which i don't think they used to do in brawl. he wasn't able to get me in time, but i did see him brutalize the other two computers.

but at the same time it's not that hard to pull the win.
i don't think they're too interested in actually taking victory. their programming may actually fit better for stock matches.

Good point, I just thought amiibos would turn into unpredictable super fighters as long as anyone trains them
