so after playing the demo. I notice that at first the cpu seemed alot smarter than the one in brawl (lv9)

they totally toasted me the first few games.

now after playing with them a little more I am smashing through them with no fear....

what do you guys think of the cpus better? worse?

It seems like they read all of your inputs, so the only real way to hit them is to wait for them to attack you then punish. Some might see this as a problem since they're pretty much playing frame by frame and the only time you can actually hit them is when they intentionally don't block to make it fair or they're in stuck in an animation, but most really good smash players play like that too so it is good training. They also use a lot of techniques that the AI's in previous games wouldn't do, Link can bomb jump and Mario uses his cape to recover (it's nerfed but it still works). I'd say the AI in this game are a lot better than all the other ones.

They do some things smarter, some things worse. They take a different approach to beat compared to the ones in Brawl, but I don't think they're smarter over-all.

Now, whether or not the same will be true of Amiibo characters, we'll see.

They definitely seem smarter. The AI in Brawl seemed to only be concerned with hitting you....in 3DS they go for good items and dodge roll. They are smart and play intelligently.

I do know that the level 1 CPU is merely a pushover, as it only really reacts to grab attempts, while it's simply a punching bag at any other time; Smash 3DS's level 1s are apparently easier than Brawl's level 1s.

the luigi ai really gave me a run for my money. others (especially certain matchups like dedede ai vs samus player) are quite retarted letting the same move hit them over and over again.

I did find the AI's to be hard in this game AT FIRST. But they have a certain play-style and if you can counter it then, well, they're extremely easy! But I still find the Mega Man AI to be really hard. I also only have the demo...

I only have the demo, but Mario seems to be the best CPU, for some reason. It doesn't use FLUDD very well, but otherwise yeah.

One thing I've noticed is that they don't generally try to get rid of the Crash Bomber, they just sit there spamming shield.

CPU Mega Man, however, does know to run away from you if you come after him trying to transfer his Crash Bomber.

The lvl9 CPU's are pretty darn hard on the demo but as everyone else seems to be stating, I'm sure once you find out their pattern they are easy to beat. However I'd rather do that with a character I like to main instead of a character in the demo, so I'm just dealing with the lvl 8 CPU which for some reason is way easier

If you plan on maining one of the demo charcters Im sure they wont be significantly differnt when the game comes out

I meant I'm maining characters not available in the demo ^^

Because well, the characters in the demo are fun and all, but they're not really ones that catch my interest (with a roster this large one is allowed to be a bit picky) so I'm not going to waste too much time with characters I'll most likely never touch again when the full game comes out haha

I'll probably have a hard time facing harder CPUs with someone that I don't feel comfy using. Villager is probably out of the question for me, though I do hope that Rosalina is a friendly pick for the job.

Of course, hunting down good equipment will probably be a major priority if you want to take on Classic Mode's higher intensity levels.

Eh. They've undergone a new way of doing things, but they are still bad once you know them.

1-frame reaction times are still a thing, but they do stupid **** like throw out smash attacks from nothing, immediately airdodge almost every time they exit hitstun, and recover in ways that are easy to edgeguard. Once you learn their habits they're really easy to deal with.

They feel easier to me... but I think it is the speed. Weird, I can beat level 9s in this and Project M but not Brawl D:

The CPUs are incredibly easy once you adapt your playstyle. They're terrible at shielding dash attacks (as in past games) and their airdodges and recoveries are both extremely predictable, making them gimpable and punishable if you're patient with your aerials and finishers. I can get ~6 KOs on a level 9 in a 2 minute match by using Mario's down-throw combo, throwing them off the stage and abusing their airdodge lag with his Fair. :p I guess the key is that they demand more patience and you need to read them more than in past games.

Do they still gang up on the player? I hated that they did that in brawl and melee, but I can't really tell in the demo.

If I recall correctly, CPUs will still gang up on human players. If a CPU grabs a Smash Ball, it'll always chase after you, regardless of damage percentages.

They're definitely smarter than any other lvl 9s in all previous Smash games. One thing I noticed is that they engage in a lot of edgeguarding. I also honestly believe that they adjust their behavior based on the previous match.

I was using Link and playing against random lvl 9 cpus, and I got Villager twice in a row. The first time I creamed him at 2-0. Second match I won but it was a sudden death at 1-1. I played the second game the same as the first at the beginning, but I changed up about 20 seconds into the match because the cpu was getting all kinds of hard reads on me.

The CPUs are easier to play against in this one than in brawl

They are definitely harder, but nowhere near as hard as the amiibo can supposedly be. The only LVL 9 CPU that's a real issue for me is the Mario one, but even then it's not too hard to beat. There's a definite increase from Brawl in my opinion, but again, nothing impossible to beat.
