Counterplay to shield dropping?

My practice partner has lately been getting the better of me ever since he's gotten consistent with his shield drops. I'm a falco main and he mains captain falcon. Usually when he was shielding on a platform, I would shine, immediately waveland in front of his shield, and grab him to get some damage. But now, I usually get shield drop up aired as soon I initiate the waveland, and it's gotten to the point where he will actively camp platforms because I have so much trouble dealing with it. Is the best option to just lame it out and shoot lasers, or is there a more active counter-strategy to what he's doing?

If you keep falling for the same strategy, you just need to avoid it. Look out for his baits and avoid them, he is only doing it so frequently because he knows it will work on you.

Even if I bait the shield drop with a dash dance or w/e and don't get hit, would that put me in a particularly advantageous situation? The issue isn't so much avoiding it, but moreso I want to be able to punish it consistently since it's so obvious what he's trying to do. Even if I waveland on the platform and just try to grab him, he would probably just shield drop uair preemptively and just clip me.

Experiment with baiting him out of his shield, or apply pressure with lasers. Remember, you don't have to approach.

Haha, very true. I have to make such a conscious effort to not go in sometimes, but I suppose it's for the best. The next logical thing I need to work on is avoiding unsafe lasers, but I should be able to work through that fairly easily.

Waveland on platform and shield. If he shield drops, shield the up air and fall through with a Dair/Bair/Nair to punish his landing. In other words, beat it by shield dropping. If he shields the attack, go into shine pressure. If he doesn't drop, grab. If he starts grabbing to react to this, mix up with a spotdodge jab/shine or drop through the platform and double jump back up with an attack.

You can also space yourself to where when he sheild drops the up air will barely miss and you can fall through with a counter attack. You can shine>grab before he falls (I think). You can doubleshine his shield so that he upairs when you have invincibility, which I think hits him.

Or you could just go to the other platform and laser him endlessly until he comes down.

I've been trying to mix it up between laser camping and baiting/countering the shield drop. The latter method has had varying degrees of success because 1) up air shield pokes very often and 2) he will often shield drop before I have the chance to put my shield up and just hit me. Unfortunately, it's also pretty difficult to punish when he whiffs an up air since the landing lag is really low. That being said, I would say that I have about a 50% success rate with this method since my shield drops are pretty clean.

Lasering him from the opposite platform has definitely been the most successful method, so I think I'm going to try and respond with that method first as soon as he starts platform camping.

For the shield poke problem, you could practice angeling your shield to block it into a shield drop.

Oh yeah, true. I'm not bad at angling my shield when I'm on the defensive, just gotta remember to do it when I'm baiting him as well. Thanks for the advice :)
