I've been watching videos of high-level Marth play to dissect their movement and DD and I thought of something: Can you counter (down+b) a shine spike attempt? Like, would the invincibility of the shine and the jump out keep Fox safe from the hit from the counter?

Just a thought I had but can't really check myself

at best you'd take him down with you but no one you are coming back after that. You'd also have to predict him coming with a shine and if you do that, you're better of just hitting him with a faster aerial. Also, if he knows you'll do the counter, he'll just not hit you and let you fall to your death.

if you are offstage, and below the ledge, the one thing that might do you well is a sideB right before he gets you, so that both of you are then going to have to recover. I doubt counter would be very efficient, as the Fox could just fake you out, and shinespike/bair right after.

I think that the counter's hitbox would activate after Fox's shine invincibility is gone, so it should hit him, but as the others have said, there are better choices. There have been at least a few instances I can remember when I have caught Fox jumping out at me for the shine spike by using up b early. This option can be very nice in some instances, but using up b early carries its own risks.

I know that doing this is in no way shape or form optimal or at all a good option, but I was only wondering if it would actually hit said Fox. Not put me in a good position or anything like that.

More or less a hypothetical question but, regardless, thanks for the input people.
