Could Ryu evolve the Western meta?

Browsed this post earlier. Apparently Ryu has trouble against zoning? Someone referenced DJ Jack's interview so I checked it out:

Emblem Lord put it best: "Ryu doesn't lose to anyone on the character select screen." That being said, however, Ryu does seem to struggle against certain characters like Mega Man. Zoning characters in general can give him trouble because his mobility isn't the greatest, so the game plan is to keep him out. The last place you want Ryu to be is right next to you because, well, you can get KOd at 70% with rage.

Perhaps the Ryu matchup could contribute to zoning and defensive play in the West as he rises in popularity. Also curious how the next balance patch treats him. Thoughts?

Luigi loses to zoning far harder than Ryu but no one ever bothered to do it. I highly doubt that it would happen.

I'd rather balance patches make more characters viable (DK and Ike made huge gains, for example) rather than the meta become increasingly campy and zone oriented instead.
