Could 'equipment' be used to customize game flow?

Just a thought about the new equipment system and some possible applications for it in competitive play. (If it's something we'll readily be able to do on the wii u, which I really hope will be the case)

Sure, it doesn't look very balanced if everyone is allowed to choose their own loadout, but what if it were standardized for all participants?

This is assuming that everyone is affected by gear the same way, but by making it so that everyone in the match needs to select the same gear.

Is the game too slow in terms of mobility? Make everybody equip a speed up item to increase the overall movement speed of all characters while leaving things such as attack frame times and overall gameplay speed the same. It's different from simply playing on turbo mode because it only affects one aspect of the character - or in this case, all characters.

Want a match where people get KOed faster but don't necessarily want everyone dealing more damage? Everybody equips knockback items.

I doubt this is something that would be easy to organize, and it entirely depends on just how much is possible for us to customize when it comes to equipment, but it could be something worth thinking about and discussing as an option, even if just for the creation of unique side events for more serious tournaments. Either way, I feel it's got potential to offer a lot more fine-tuning than simply increasing the match speed or ramping up everyone's damage/defense.

This could very well be possible. We don't know how the game works. (Sorry, if this is annoying, I know it is.)

This idea just might work tho.

I was thinking of this the other day, lol.
It could also be used to balance certain characters or make certain matchups more fair.

The only thing that sucks though is that these items will probably all be random, and it might be near impossible to get the same item on different consoles. Plus, it looks like there is always a tradeoff: negative speed for increased attack, negative defense for better shielding, etc.
But you never know. I guess we'll have to wait until more specifics are unveiled.
