Hey guys, it's been several years since I bought a new GCC so I wanted your advice.

I've been suggested to get:
http://www.amazon.ca/Official-Nintendo-Classic-Gamecube-Controller/dp/B0017KIBAI

I'm thinking back then $35 for GCC was about standard, but now adays there may be some better options for competitive play.

Is there any rationale posts or the like on this? Any bad experiences through junky craigslist controllers or do they generally do the job?

That's pretty much the best controller imHo. You might even cream yourself a little once you pull it out of the box for the first time. If you don't get that one though, if anything avoid 3rd party controllers at all costs. I made that mistake once and never again. Both joysticks had a ridiculous deadzone, you had to falcon punch the buttons to make them work at all, the plastic part that goes into the port was a completely different color, the controller itself was light as a feather which made it really awkward to hold, didn't have the official nintendo logo on it, basically everything you know and love out of what you'd probably see in a walmart brand.

I might actually take one of these white controllers apart and make a custom arcade stick out of it. I kinda wonder what that would feel like.

Controller modding doesn't actually sound that bad, I wonder if they are repairable or if its possible to mod them into better performance?

You could mod a GCC to have 2 output ports, one for N64 and one for GC, the GCC stick would allow clearer DI -> 64 I think.

Sounds good, thanks for you input on this controller!

Still looking into local options =]
