Controller shoulder not clicking anymore?

My GC pad's R button no longer clicks when pressed all the way in. This makes it incredibly difficult to gauge what's going on and when things will happen. I've tried blowing into it- hard- as well as when the case is completely off. The odd thing is, when I left it for months and came back to it just now, it started clicking again, but only for a bit. After clicking it in for an amount, it stops again. What could be the problem and how could I fix it?

I'm not 100% sure about this, but it is most likely dirty on the inside and you need to take it apart and clean it. If that doesn't work, then you should either look up the solution inline, wait for another suggestion here, or buy a new controller altogether.
