Controller shell idea

Ok, so I was thinking of taking off the shell my controller, which works very well, and replacing it with the shell of a third party controller.

The idea is with only the shell replaced, all of the buttons would still work the same just with a new and colorful shell.
I'm not too into controller customization and I have no idea if this would work. Has anyone done this before or know anything about something like this?

I guess it depends on how well the insides of the GC controller stay inside the 3rd party controller.
Tbh, all I've done in terms of controller modding is fixing a wiggly left control stick and replace the thumbpad with a PS3 controller thumbpad and the B with an Square button.

It definitely depends on the 3rd party controller. If it's one of these guys (a chinese knockoff, basically) then go for it. I've used the shell from one of these for a repaint, and it fits exactly.

If it's something like a Mad Katz controller, then no, the innards will not fit.

I depends a lot on the 3rd party shell in question. Sometimes the molding won't work with the official GCN controller's board.

If that's the case you can still make the buttons feel like your official controller, but you won't be able to do it for your control stick or C-stick. Underneath all the buttons are little rubber membrane pads that you can transfer to the 3rd party controller.

Either way it's worth a shot. The insides of a GameCube controller are really simple to work with so you shouldn't have to worry about that.

Be careful.

Even if the controller looks really similar to the original one, its probably not made the same way or even the same size.

this won't work 100%, sadly. one time i accidentally bought a 3rd party controller that had a gc styled shell, but i couldn't even swap boards out because the screws didn't line up properly inside.

and if you just want a colorful shell, you can do that with nintendo brand ones, anyway. just pull the stuff out, set it aside somewhere safe. clean your shell off, let it dry, then go at it with paint.

hell, i used fingernail polish on mine, and that ****'s survived a good 12+ years with no issue!

I've done it with a pink controller. I know that the pink and red ones work for sure. you've gotta clean out the insides a little, but it's nothing some needle nose pliers can't handle.
