I'm wondering if there's a preferred setting for using the controller. I'm currently using the Pro Controller since I couldn't get an adapter when the game came out, but now I have the adapter... so I have a few questions:

1) Is the GC controller better than the Pro Controller in terms of comfort and button layout to make it easier?

2) What is the best set up on either controller for maximum efficiency?

I've asked this before but a lot of people have told me it's "preference" but I kinda wanna know if there's anything that would help improve my gameplay just based on which controller / controller set-up I use.

Thank you for the help!

It's mostly a preference matter. Use the controller that you're most comfortable with. But if you really need some controller setup help, I can at least show you my control setup for the Pro Controller.

Note: The following screenshot was posted long before the 1.0.6 update was released.

if you used gamecube controller at all, get one and it will still feel great. If you get used to the pro controller more power to you. My brother got used to the wii mote and nunchuck for brawl and still uses it for smash 4, so just a matter of practice. Also I set tap jump off.

I have two controller setups: (GameCube)

My standard:
- Default with Tap Jump off.

I have special controls just for Sheik:
- L is Special with the rest being the same as my standard.

I use this so advanced Sheik tech is easier. (Namely needle fidgeting) I don't have much practice with it but it makes a world of difference trying to fit into 6 frames.

Pro controller:
- I use default with tap jump off and ZR and ZL being grab, and R and L being shield. My Sheik setup is the same, with L being speical.

I used to have my C-stick be "attack," which were tilts, for some characters. This was for situations where using smashes was usually impractical (like Bowser), but that option is no longer available.

As for your questions:
1) Is the GC controller better than the Pro Controller in terms of comfort and button layout to make it easier?

2) What is the best set up on either controller for maximum efficiency?
1) Comfort is a matter of preference, so is the button layout. However, the pro controller has one extra button, so if that makes a difference for you then great.

2) Maximum efficiency... I would say have the Attack, Shield, Jump, Special, and/or Grab functions on A, B, X, and Y, in any order. Or, have those be on R, L, ZR, and ZL.

Mario & Sonic Guy has it down. Those four buttons can do every (practical) option in the game with the exception of grab. (Not to be confused with out of shield grab)

Good luck!
