I'm not familiar with the classic, but most people move their taunts further up on the controller so they G&W quicker access to foot stooling.

^On Amazon, can't post links yet. Haven't tried it, but I remembered seeing this in the past. Something to consider at any rate.

I swap R to attack, A to jump, Y to attack, X to special, and B to uptaunt/footstool. Might move jump to Z at some point for the sake of float aerials.

Once the gamecube adapter comes out this holiday I highly recommend picking that up or maybe pick of a classic controller pro

It's up to you though at the end of the day your button layout is personal comfort a lot of use weird configurations

I played using a classic controller for a time, and after a lot of experimenting I decided the default controls felt most comfortable. If you learn to jump with X/Y exclusively, then you can map the other jump button to a taunt for maximum styling.

I have Z as jump and X as grab. It makes it so that aerials can come out faster after jumping/double jumping. I'm also experimenting with R as attack for DACUS.

For mewtwo I have R as jump for float shenanigans, and for snake, marth, and GW I have R mapped to A for DACUS
Y as taunt, always
