Controller Lag with WiFi Brawls

I saw the thread on smashbros.com a long time ago saying how there might be some latency issues. I also saw where it said the closer you live to someone the better match quality the Brawl will be. Now I played some random matches and got about a 1/2 second control delay not frame rate delay might i add when playing online, next I played a friend who lives 2 minutes down the road and got the same exact control delay. Now who else is this happening to, I know I'm not alone.
