Smash Wii U Controller Compatibility for 8-Player Smash

I asked myself this morning... "How exactly are we even going to play 8 player smash? 4 people with GC Controllers and 4 with other controllers? What if I'm not buying a GC adapter? can I still enjoy 8 Player Smash?"
